Meet Our New Colleagues

Héctor Sáez

Join the crowd in welcoming Héctor Sáez to the Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources at the Northwestern Research and Extension Center in Mount Vernon, where he began filling the new role of BIOAg Value-Added Specialist in January 2008. In addition to various WSU fanfare (including a Spanish language press release announcing his arrival), a February 8 issue of Capital Press featured a story about how Héctor’s background integrating international business savvy with environmental and social consciousness is now benefitting Washington State. At his previous position with the University of Vermont, Héctor worked on community development and applied economics, including helping rural Costa Rican coffee farmers become more self-sufficient and studying incentives and techniques that could help restore natural resources in Cuba.

Héctor earned both a PhD and MA in economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a BA in economics from the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras. Recreational interests range from outdoor activities and salsa dancing to political punditry.
