Topics in today's issue of Extension Update:

FEDERAL PRIORITIES PROCESS BEGINS
Now is the time to pull together the proposals for WSU Federal Priorities FY07. Federal Priorities instructions are posted on the WSU federal relations Web site. A worksheet is provided. Federal requests are due mid-September so work with the Dept. Chairs, Program Directors, Center Directors, and District Directors asap. Extension generated federal priorities proposals must come through Linda Kirk Fox in the Extension Dean and Directors office by September 12th. Contact Kathy Stilwell in our office if you have questions.

This move includes the Pullman 4-H Youth Development Staff who are now located on the 6th floor of Johnson Tower. Phone numbers have remained the same. Their new address is: State 4-H Office, Washington State University, 601 Johnson Tower, PO Box 644852, Pullman, WA 99164-4852

NATIONAL EXTENSION DIVERSITY CENTER AUGUST EDITION
This month's edition of the National Extension Diversity Center features emotions in the workplace. As author, Ann Snyder writes, "What’s emotion got to do with diversity in the workplace? What choices do individuals have for integrating emotion at work in meaningful and respectful ways? What governs the expression of emotion in the workplace? Who gets to decide the role of emotion in our work lives? Is emotion in the workplace a diversity issue?"

Snyder's article features a facilitator's guide so that you can offer a mini-workshop in workplaces around the issue of expressing or not expressing emotion at work. You can also voice your opinion on our August Opinion Poll.

ENERGY AG NEWSBRIEFS
Distributed since 1999 through the Energy Program, the EnergyAg Newsbriefs has over 500 subscribers including state and federal agencies, cooperative extension nationwide, farmers, and anyone else interested in energy efficiency as it relates to agriculture. While mostly concentrated on topics applicable to Western States (because of our funder's service territory), the newsletter does cover projects and news from other states. The Energy Program has received good feedback from subscribers over the years and is a useful tool for readers. View archived issues. To subscribe to the newsletter, send an email. Feel free to contact Christine Love, Energy Program Analyst, WSU Extension Energy Program, 360-956-2172 if you have any questions.

JANET EDWARDS SELECTED AS WSU 4-H AFTER SCHOOL SPECIALIST
We are pleased to announce that Janet Edwards of the University of Idaho has accepted our offer of temporary employment (October 1,2005-September 30,2008) as our Washington State University Extension 4-H After School Specialist. Janet’s office will be in Pullman in Johnson Tower with our State 4-H team in the Human Development Department. Since the Department is in the process of moving this week to Johnson Tower contact information for Janet will be sent separately. This is a .5 FTE appointment. Janet will continue her .5 FTE appointment with USDA/CSREES. A number of you may recall that Janet worked in the Spokane County 4-H Program over a decade ago. I know that you join with me in welcoming Janet back to Washington State.

SKILLSOFT COURSE DOWNLOADS IMPROVED
Within your SkillPort is the ability to download courses and play them without being connected to the Internet. Your scores and course progress are added to your SkillPort record the next time you login. This is useful if you are planning a trip soon and will not have access to a network connection. Also, it can improve your learning experience if you have a slow connection speed such as through dial-up. Or, perhaps, you would simply like to take your learning to the park and enjoy a course under your favorite elm. The download feature is described through the shortcut on your SkillPort. With WSU and SkillSoft, you can take the learning with you - wherever you go!
