EXTENSION TECHNOLOGY SURVEY
In an attempt to assist Extension administration in planning for future needs in Information Technology, the Information Department has put together an on-line survey for all WSU Extension personnel to fill out.

The survey is aimed at gathering facts about present technology use, equipment that you have and what you feel you should have, attitudes and opinions about various technologies and their use for program delivery and your technology training needs.

Please take a few minutes to fill out the survey by going to: URL is http://ext.wsu.edu/TechnologySurvey.html.

We'll summarize the results of the survey and share them in a future "Extension Update." Thanks for your assistance.

HAVE YOUR PROGRAM FEATURED ON THE CE HOMEPAGE
The Information Department is soliciting photos and text for the feature program on the Cooperative Extension home page. One photo will appear in the middle of the home page, next to the "Program Information" link...and we'll use the additional photos and text description of the program as a link from the "More photos and Information" link on the home page.

Please send your photos and text to Bob Hoffmann. Please be sure your photos are at least 600 x 800 dot per inch.

SECOND NOTICE: CE MARKETING ITEMS
We're excited to be offering multiple different Washington State University Cooperative Extension marketing items this time around. We not only have clothing for the cold winter months, but we will continue to offer items for the spring and summer so that you can get prepared ahead of time for the warmer weather. Take a look at http://ext.wsu.edu/marketing.
Remember, these items make wonderful gifts! Whether you purchase an umbrella or jacket, you will discover that you will be very pleased with your order. Be sure to order by November 8, 2002! Questions? Email Christy Fitzgerald.

RECRUITING MINI-GRANTS 2002-2003
We are pleased to offer 5 Mini Grants of $1,000 each to county offices that engage in recruiting efforts. Past winners have used the funds for group visits to campus, special events in the county related to WSU recruiting or to purchase items thatsupport recruitment activities. Since we know that the best way to recruit high ability students is to get them to Pullman, priority will be given to proposals that include a campus visit.

In addition, we were able to squeeze out a few dollars to purchase some recruiting items that we can make available to county offices when they undertake a recruiting activity. We have limited quantities -- so it will be first come first served for WSU pencils, cougar head tattoos, WSU stickers and lanyards. We also have about 125 really cool WSU plastic travel mugs with lids. These mugs can be used for prizes at events, but because they are over a certain cost, we need verification that the event advertised a door prize in order to satisfy the audit trail.

Several counties heard about these give away items at the conference and went home with goody bags. We will be happy to send out items to more counties but please — in the request — let us know how many of each item you would like (again remembering we have limited quantities) and describe the event at which these items will be used, along with an estimate of how many people will attend the event.

If you have questions contact Cliff Moore.

WSU BUDGET REQUESTS
The Washington State University biennial operating and capital budget requests have been approved by the Regents and forwarded to the Office of Financial Management (OFM) in preparation for the 2003 legislature. Summaries of the Operating Budget Request and the Capital Budget Request are available as PDF files on the Web site http://www.budget.wsu.edu/FY03BudgetRequests.asp.

The PowerPoint materials related to these requests and presented to the Regents in September 2002, are available under Presentations on the Institutional Research Web site http://www.ir.wsu.edu/home.html?ns=hom.

WSU HEALTH INSURANCE RATE HIKES
Major increases in medical and dental insurance premiums will take effect in exactly 60 days, accompanied by some substantial changes in insurance coverage. As a result, you need to do your homework before the end of this year's open enrollment period on Nov. 30. See the related article on page 1 of WSU Today, the Nov. 1 issue.
