MORE ANALYSIS OF CAHE FACULTY AND STAFF MEDIA USE FOR VIEWING VIDEO BROADCASTS

Most of you have seen the preliminary report on the survey conducted by Scott Fedale on the methods used by CAHE faculty and staff to view college video programs, such as "CAHE UPDATE" and "Extension Engaged."

Scott has done further analysis, which has resulted in some rather interesting statistics in looking at the differences in media choices on and off-campus. For those viewing from outside of Pullman, the preferred viewing method of 80 individuals is satellite, 46 preferred videostream, and 7 use WHETS. For those on-campus, 53 prefer viewing it live, whereas 33 use videostreaming as their primary viewing method. Looking at the overall totals, 80 individuals use satellite as their primary viewing method, 79 use videostreaming, 53 view in person and 8 use WHETS.

FEBRUARY "EXTENSION ENGAGED" TO FEATURE NETCOUNSELING FOR RURAL WASHINGTON BUSINESSES

"Small Business Assistance via NetCounseling" is the topic for the February 6 edition of Extension Engaged, a new video series produced by the Information Department of Washington State University Cooperative Extension.

The program will feature Carolyn Clark, State Director of Washington's Small Business Development Center network at Washington State University - Spokane, in a conversation about an innovative delivery of management and technical assistance to small business owners in all parts of the state. Other guests include a business owner from NE Washington who has participated in the NetCounseling program and one of the SBDC business counselors.

Clark says that: "Owners and managers of small or medium sized, new or existing businesses can obtain one-on-one, confidential, no charge counseling assistance from highly qualified Business Development Specialists. That management and technical assistance can now be delivered, via NetCounseling, to business owners who lack easy access to an SBDC. Using low cost, easy-to-use technology, counseling is delivered live, from the desktop of the development specialist to the desktop conveniently located in a NetCounseling satellite center, which might be located in a county Extension Office, or possibly, in the business owner's office.

Reports from business people who've used the new service are very positive. They value the assistance previously accessible only with considerable time spent on the road and they say SBDC counseling services are first rate.

The video broadcast will take place from 9:30-10:30 am and will originate from room T-101 in the Food Science and Human Nutrition Building. All WSU faculty and staff are invited to be part of the live audience for the program.

For those off-campus, the program will be available via satellite and videostreaming. To find the exact satellite information or the location of the videostream visit the Information Department's satellite events webpage at: http://caheinfo.wsu.edu/video/satellite.html

For more information about the program, contact program host Scott Fedale at fedale@wsu.edu or via phone at 509-335-2952 or Carolyn Clark at clrk@wsu.edu or 509-358-7765.

DEAN TATE URGES ALL TO USE CE CALENDAR

I'd like to urge all CE faculty and staff to please enter all events, meetings, workshops, etc. into our Cooperative Extension Calendar on the CE website.

When we're scheduling events like conferences, satellite broadcasts, meetings with groups like county chairs, etc., we'd like to be able to avoid conflicts with other meetings that involve large numbers of our faculty and staff. But if these meetings are not listed on the CE calendar, we have no way of knowing that they are planned. So please ask your secretaries and administrative assistants to be sure and enter significant meetings and events that you're involved with into the CE calendar on our website.
