What is a SharePoint Team Site?
A SharePoint site is a Web site that provides a central storage and collaboration space for documents, information, and ideas. A SharePoint site is a tool for collaboration, just like a telephone is a tool for communication, or a meeting is a tool for decision making. A SharePoint site helps groups of people share information and work together. For example, a SharePoint site can help you:
- Coordinate projects, calendars, and schedules.
- Discuss ideas and review documents or proposals.
- Share information and keep in touch with other people.
- Document your team communications.
- Access training resources.
- Assess and access curriculum.
- Make announcements.
- Share schedules.
- Facilitate team discussions regarding curriculum use, training successes and pitfalls to avoid.
Accessing SharePoint
Accessing a SharePoint site can be done in a number of ways. When you are granted “permission” to access a certain SharePoint site, you will usually receive an email invitation. The invitation will have a URL or Web site link in the message. Click on that URL and you will be prompted to log in to the site. You can save the site in your “Favorites” (or bookmarks) on your browser. You can also type the address into your Internet browser.
Logging in to SharePoint
As you access the SharePoint site you will be asked to provide a user name and password.

This information is specific to a WSU domain. Many of you have two or more domains. You may have the old CAHE domain, as well as the Active Directory domain. It is the standard to use the Active Directory domain. That domain starts with AD\ (or CAHE\) and then your user name. You will need to then enter your password. This is the same password that you use to check your earning statement online through WSU. If you are unable to access the site, you have probably used the CAHE domain address; try it again using the Active Directory domain (AD\name). It usually works best to try the same domain and password that you use to access your pay stubs from WSU.
View all Site Content
Clicking on the View All Site Content on the upper left corner will allow you to view everything on that particular site and is a great way to learn your way around the site.
