Sending an Email from the SharePoint Site
You need to tell someone about a new PowerPoint presentation that you added to the library. You want to send her an e-mail with a link to the presentation. How do you do that? Click the down arrow next to the file, click Send To, and then click E-mail a Link.

You can also use SharePoint to send group emails to everyone on the site. Just click People and Groups link in the left-hand navigation, check the box in front of their profile, and compose your message.
Announcements
There is an Announcements section. This section is used to post messages on the home page of the SharePoint site. This is easily done by clicking on the announcements section and posting your message to your team.
Assigning Tasks to the Team
Use Task Lists to keep track of work that you or team members need to complete. Click on the Tasks link and assign tasks to individuals or the entire team, dependent on the permission level.
Discussion Boards
Discussion Boards allow workgroup members to conduct threaded discussions.
