Communication
This essential skills training will assist WSU Extension educators build and enhance critical communication skills to increase their effectiveness within their program and community. Participants will be actively engaged in writing, presenting, and critiquing themselves and other participants.
WSU Extension Core Competency addressed in this essential skill area:
Communication Skills
- Exhibit effective communications with peers and clientele in a collegial manner.
- Effectively write reports, newsletters, scholarly publications, and popular media materials.
- Orally communicate in a manner that is clearly understandable and interesting and leads to retention of critical information among the target audience.
- Use appropriate, diverse and effective strategies to leverage the media to communicate with key audiences and appropriate stakeholders.
- Explore and adopt cutting-edge communication and educational techniques and technologies.
Outcomes for Communication Competencies: Professionals competent in Communication skills will:
- Self assess and improve writing skills and presentation skills.
- Improve writing and presentation skills.
- Learn how to write for various audiences (Impact statements, the Web, news articles, etc.)
- Be critiqued and assisted to improve presentation skills.
- Develop various tools for use in local offices in the production of brochures, flyers, PowerPoint.
