Meet Our New Colleagues

John Winder

John Winder began his duties as Associate Dean and Associate Director of WSU Extension on April 1, 2006. He will be working closely with Dean and Director Linda Fox to oversee statewide operations, planning and accountability, and personnel processes. As Assistant Director of Oregon State University Extension from 2002–2006, John had oversight for county programs in 18 counties and research and extension centers and was responsible for statewide planning and accountability, long-range planning, and interaction with leadership in communities and organizations across the state. John sees WSU Extension as “an innovator creating new methods for delivering educational opportunities to the residents of Washington and beyond” and he looks forward to continuing this tradition.

Born in Deming, New Mexico and raised on a cattle ranch in southwestern New Mexico, John earned both a BS and MS in Animal Science from New Mexico State University. He earned his PhD in Animal Breeding and Genetics from Colorado State University. His hobbies include landscape photography, hiking, bicycling, and reading.
