Call for Abstracts

Associate Vice President and Dean Linda Kirk Fox and the All Extension Symposium Planning Committee invite Washington State University Extension faculty and staff to submit outstanding research, scholarly, and extension engagement projects to be considered for the Hall of Champions.  This year WSU Extension winners in the Hall of Champions and the Big Cat Award will be presented in a revised format in early spring and will be selected from the abstracts submitted.

Abstract Submission Deadline

Impact Areas of Work
All abstracts should be centered on one of our strategic goals or strategic initiatives.  Please select from the following Strategic Framework goals and initiatives the one which best describes the impact of the work being submitted.

  1. Create and sustain vibrant communities and urban neighborhoods
  2. Create and sustain businesses, jobs and the economic vitality of Washington
  3. Enhance natural resources and environmental stewardship
  4. Enhance economic opportunities for agricultural enterprises while protecting Washington’s resources
  5. Improve health and wellness of the residents of Washington
  6. Empower youth and families to achieve social, economic and educational success.
  7. Enhance the energy security of the Pacific Northwest through increased efficiency and through development and application of renewable energy resources
  8. Strengthen WSU Extension’s capacity to address critical urban issues
  9. Strengthen WSU Extension’s role as an integral part of the University
  10. Increase the diversity of WSU Extension’s faculty, staff, volunteer base, and those we serve
  11. Create the premier Extension Web presence for delivery of educational programming and materials to diverse audiences

Additional description and detail on these strategic goals and initiatives is included in WSU Extension’s Strategic Framework which can be found at: http://ext.wsu.edu/Framwork.pdf
Please prepare an abstract or summary of your activity that describes your research, engagement, or other scholarly activity conducted on behalf of Washington State University Extension.  Year-end impact reports submitted in the WSU WORQS system can be used as abstracts.  A review committee will evaluate all abstracts and choose a blend of projects across the state, across program areas, and across strategic goals and initiatives.  Posters from individuals, teams, programs and projects are encouraged.

Abstract Guidelines
Abstracts should be brief and to the point (250 words).
All abstracts should include:

  1. A situation statement describing the issue or problem being addressed.
  2. A summary of actions (what was done).
  3. A summary of impacts, results, conclusions and implications.

Authors should submit quality photographs (digital images, minimum of 2100 pixels at 72 dpi – higher quality images (200 or 300 dpi) would be even better) which could be used should the entry be selected for Hall of Champions or Big Cat awards.

Extension programs and employment are available to all without discrimination. Evidence of noncompliance may be reported through your local Extension office.
