Postage Allocation

The Extension postage allocation is a special mailing privilege worked out between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Postal Service which pertains only to Extension. Specific restrictions and allowances have been agreed upon which do not apply to "straight-line" Federal agencies or to the university in general. The privilege is given by the Director of Extension to designated employees who may then use commercial mail under the rules laid out in this section. The mail privilege, if appropriate, is documented in a letter at the time of hire and terminated upon separation from employment. It is very important to follow these rules and to understand when it is and is not appropriate to use Extension's postage allocation. WSU Extension has a mail officer who can answer questions and who has authority to monitor use and correct abuses.

WSU Extension is provided with an allocation on an annual basis, which in turn is distributed to counties and units. This normally happens October 1.

These allocations MUST NOT be over-expended.

Address any questions to the mail officer, Mary Hoffman, at 509-335-2993.
