County 4-H Youth Development Program

The 4-H program is an integral part of the educational program of Washington State University Extension. 4-H is the Youth Development program of WSU Cooperative Extension.

The 4-H Youth Development program in each county is the responsibility of faculty and program staff assigned to that task by a mutual agreement of District Directors and county chairs. The faculty in charge of the 4-H Youth Development program is directly responsible to the county chair. He/she also works as part of the Extension team in promoting good public relations for Extension and Washington State University.

The agent in charge of 4-H Youth Development has a primary responsibility of facilitating the following processes:

  1. Planning the overall 4-H Youth Development program
  2. Working with program advisory councils or groups
  3. Rcruiting members, leaders, and participants
  4. Training adult and youth volunteers for 4-H Youth Development program responsibilities
  5. Organizing and conducting 4-H events and activities
  6. Supervising recognition and award programs
  7. Other assigned duties
Other Extension faculty in cooperation with the 4-H Youth Development faculty have responsibilities in the 4-H program, according to their professional abilities, for:
  1. Training project leaders
  2. Planning and conducting project-related activities and events
  3. Other duties as mutually determined
