STATE OF THE UNIVERSITY ADDRESS BY PRESIDENT FLOYD
On Wednesday, October 1, from 3:10 to 4 p.m., President Floyd will be delivering his "State of the University" address in Bryan Hall. President Floyd will share his perspectives on Washington State University and his vision for the future. A reception will follow in Bryan Hall lobby. All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend the address. To allow viewing by those locations outside of the Pullman campus, WSU's central Academic Media Services will be providing a live videostream which can be accessed from the web at: "http://Experience.wsu.edu"
WSU ACCREDITATION SELF-STUDY AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW
The Accreditation Steering Committee is in the process of completing Washington State University's self-study in preparation for an evaluation team visit April 1-3, 2009 from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). The self-study is available for review and comment at http://universityportfolio.wsu.edu/nwccu2009. To access the document you will need to provide your WSU network ID and password. The draft is the product of a thorough and inclusive process involving hundreds of participants. Input from the WSU community is an important part of the process. Review will continue through October 10.
TENURE AND PROMOTION WORKSHOP
Fran McSweeney, Regents Professor of Psychology and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, will give a workshop and answer questions about all aspects of faculty performance reviews. The workshop will particularly focus on tenure and promotion. Any faculty member who has an interest in these issues should attend, particularly those who are just beginning their careers at WSU or who will come up for an important evaluation soon. The workshop will be given on Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm. Originating in Pullman and accessible in Spokane, Tri-Cities and Vancouver though Academic Media Services videoconferencing, it will also be video streamed to allow access through the internet. This workshop is part of an effort to increase the transparency of all faculty personnel policies.

LEADERSHIP FOR TOMORROW CONFERENCE SERIES
Proposals currently are being accepted for the Leadership for Tomorrow conference to be held in Columbus, Ohio, on April 28-30, 2009, sponsored by Ohio State University Extension, Gist Endowed Chair in Extension Education and Leadership, and Alpha Eta Chapter (Ohio) of Epsilon Sigma Phi.
The conference committee encourages submissions on new approaches to leadership from Extension professionals, scholars, practitioners, educators, business, law, military and community practitioners. We are seeking proposals for presentations that encourage critical thinking, discussion, and practical application. Sessions will be 50 minutes in length. Examples of topics can include:
- The next generation of leadership
- Changing definitions of leadership
- Leadership in times of change
- The changing demographics of leadership
- New models of leadership
- New approaches to leading
- The future of leadership

NEW WSU WEBSITE FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES - THE INFORMER
The Office of Grant & Research Development (OGRD) has recently created a new website designed to help faculty find funding opportunities and develop proposals. The website features current funding opportunities (updated weekly) in all disciplines, convenient RSS feeds to granting agencies, research news and quick links to useful tools for proposal development. WSU EXTENSION LITERACY PROJECT HONORED
A WSU Extension project aimed at increasing literacy among Latino childcare providers has won one of just two national Awards of Excellence presented by the Joint Council of Extension Professionals. The award was presented at the recent Galaxy conference, the largest gathering of extension professionals in the United States, with more than 2,400 attending. Kay Hendrickson, director of the WSU Franklin County Extension office at Pasco, and WSU Extension educator Lauri Sherfey accepted the award for the Literacy and Educational Pathways for Latino Child Care Providers project. PERSONNEL – BOSWELL FILLS VOID WHILE SEARCH ON HOLD
Given the hold on hiring administrative support staff, we are curtailing the search to fill the Administrative Assistant III position formerly held by Alecia Gibbs in the office of WSU Extension, Dean, Pullman. Beginning September 24, Tiffany Boswell will be providing support to the office of the Associate Vice President and Dean, WSU Extension, Hulbert 411. She will work mornings and can be reached at tiffany_boswell@wsu.edu. Tiffany can be reached in the afternoons at the 4-H State Office, Hulbert Hall 401. We are grateful to Tiffany and the 4-H office for assisting us with the needed administrative support.
SCHEDULE
Linda will be in Pullman Monday through Thursday. She will be attending the CAHNRS Ag Kitchen Cabinet meeting in Ellensburg on Friday.
John will be at WSU Spokane on Monday attending meetings. He will be in Pullman the rest of the week.
