LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT FOR THE 21ST CENTURY (LEAD21)
LEAD21 is a program initiated in 2005 that combines the former NELD, ESCOP/ACOP programs for leadership training for Research, Teaching and Extension faculty, educators and administrators. A copy of the internal LEAD21 application form can be accessed on the WSU Extension Professional Development web site located at http://ext.wsu.edu/pd/. Additional information regarding the program can be found at http://www.fanning.uga.edu/programs/LEAD21/index.html. In addition to completing the LEAD21 application, please answer the following question:
- What would be the benefit to CAHNRS and/or WSU Extension by your participation in the program? This information can be included in a cover memo.
Previous participants include Christi Price, Brad Gaoloch, Doreen Hauser-Lindstrom, Randy Baldree. Dale Moore is a member of the current cohort. If you have questions regarding the value of LEAD21, please feel free to contact any of them.

COACHING WOMEN IN THE ART OF STRATEGIC PERFORMANCE
“COAChing Women in the Art of Strategic Performance” workshop will be at the University Best Western Inn, Moscow, ID, on Saturday, October 3, 2008. Facilitators for the workshops will be Dr. Lee Warren, Associate Director for the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning, Harvard University, and Dr. Nancy Houfek, Head of Voice and Speech, Institute for Advanced Theater Training, Harvard University. This workshop is designed to provide women with skills to succeed in accomplishing their goals in negotiations and meetings. In addition to the two half-day workshops for faculty women, there will also be a luncheon hosted by President Floyd on October 3 and a follow-up meeting with participants to get feedback to help plan future workshops. For more information, or if you would like to participate, please contact Jim Lindstrom. He can be reached at jlindstr@wsu.edu or 509-358-7871.
COACh (Committee on the Advancement of Women Chemists) is an organization that was formed because of the slow progress in reaching gender equity in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines (http://coach.uoregon.edu/coachfiles/aboutcoach.html). Since its founding ten years ago, COACh has been jointly funded by NSF, NIH and DOE, and is now offering a competitive program that can assist institutions in bringing COACh workshops to their campuses. A committee was formed in March to initiate the process of bringing a COACh workshop to WSU for faculty and graduate students. The committee comprises representatives from the Provost’s Office, Graduate School, Office of Grants and Research Development, Association for Faculty Women, Graduate Women in Science, Women in Leadership Alliance, and the President’s Commission on the Status of Women.

eXtension RELEASES NEW STRATEGIC ROADMAP
The eXtension Governing Committee has just approved a new Strategic Roadmap; an overall master plan for managing eXtension for success both for the long term (5-7 years) and short-term (1-3 years). Russ Roberts, a management consultant and Adjunct Professor of Management and Organization, Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University was hired to facilitate the planning effort. The process included the collection and analysis of feedback from many stakeholders, a review of technology trends and directions, a study of the habits and interests of online consumers, and discussion to ensure eXtension meets the goals of Cooperative Extension.
Over the next several months, eXtension's professional staff and contributors will further build out the new plan and begin the implementation process. As new and important strategic directions and actions are taken, we will make every attempt to keep you informed and involved.
