And they only do it once every two years.  A live link to the survey also can be found at WSU Today online at http://www.wsutoday.wsu.edu.  On completion of the survey, your name will be entered in a drawing for four $50 gift certificates to Barnes & Noble and six $10 gift certificates to Starbucks (one per winner).

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

HAZARDOUS MATERIAL SHIPPING TRAINING AVAILABILITY
The WSU Tri Cities campus is sponsoring a training session for university employees that will address the needs of those involved with handling and shipping hazardous materials. This training will be held at Tri Cities on May 20-22 and will be presented by U of W Environmental Health and Safety staff. There is no cost to the class itself, only the travel related costs for the individual attending. Currently, there are 10 seats available.

The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) states that all hazard materials employees must be trained and tested if they perform any one of the following functions: Determines hazard class of materials; selects packaging of materials; fills packaging with materials; secures closures on packaging; marks packaging; labels packaging; prepares dangerous goods declarations; provides and maintains dangerous goods emergency response information; reviews dangerous goods shipping papers; persons importing dangerous goods into the U.S., and/or certifies that a hazardous material is in proper condition for transportation. SPPM 80.68 provides additional information.

The course will cover the following topics; General Awareness/Familiarization, Function Specific training, Safety training and Security training. It is imperative and required that all WSU staff who performs the functions above receive this training. Central Receiving will soon begin rejecting packages that are submitted for shipping from individuals who have not received this training.
Noncompliance with federal hazardous materials regulations potentially exposes the University and the individual shipper to fines, civil actions, and imprisonment. In addition, noncompliance with applicable federal regulations and University policy could result in property damage, injury, and death

For additional information regarding this training opportunity and lodging options and another training session in June in Seattle, please contact Fred Miller, EH&S Tri Cities at 509-372-7163 or via email at millerfl@tricity.wsu.edu.
