EXTENSION ENGAGED: RESPONSIBILITIES FOR RESEARCH ASSURANCES
Date: Friday, May 16, 2008
Time: 9:30 - 10:30 am
Extension Engaged: "Responsibilities and Liabilities When Using Human Subjects, Animals and Hazardous Materials." If you use animals, human subjects and hazardous materials in your extension, research or educational programming, you MUST comply with federal, state and university laws and regulations. Failure to do so exposes you to risk or criminal prosecution, lawsuits and other ramifications.

The WSU office of Research Assurances provides rules that provide protecting animals and pesticide usage. Faculty and staff need to know these rules for their own protection.  So join us for this Extension Engaged videostream and learn about your responsibilities and how you can protect yourself from liability, prosecution or other punitive actions.

Guests include:
- Dale Moore, Director, Veterinary Extension
- John Winder, Associate Dean and Associate Director, WSU Extension
- Catherine Daniels, Manager, Pesticide Information Center and Extension Specialist
- Dr. Steve Russell, WSU Veterinarian

This is a MUST SEE presentation! All supervisors, department chairs, county directors should encourage faculty and staff to attend or watch the archived videostream.

To attend the presentation, join us in FSHN T-101, please arrive 15 minutes before broadcast. To watch the videostream, go to http://eces.wsu.edu/video/stream.html

PERSONNEL
July 1st, 2007 John Gardner was appointed to the newly created position of Vice President of Economic Development and Extension. John Gardner have worked to clarify this new organizational structure and to determine how to provide administrative support to the Office of Economic Development. It was decided to create a new area separate from Extension, entitled "Economic Development and Extension."  Under this area are the Small Business Development Center, WSU West, and the Office of Intellectual Property Administration.  These units report directly to John Gardner. Extension remains as Area 41, also with a direct report to John Gardner.

On April 15th, Mary Hoffman's job responsibilities were expanded to include support for economic development. Her new title is "Director, WSU Economic Development and Extension Budget and Business Operations.” Mary will continue in all aspects of reporting, accounting, and internal controls for Extension. She will also provide leadership in the development of policies, procedures, organizational strucutrea dn other matters related to the creation of the “Office of Economic Development and Extension."

We are grateful to Mary for her excellent support of the fiscal and management tasks for WSU and for WSU Extension.
