WSU TODAY – PRESIDENT’S LETTER TO FACULTY
President Floyd encourages WSU though tough times. Find this news and more at WSU Today ONLINE @ http://www.wsutoday.wsu.edu. In addition, he requests $100,000 pay reduction. At this morning's Board of Regents meeting, President Elson S. Floyd requested a $100,000 pay reduction, in response to the economic difficulties facing the state and the university. WSAC AFFILIATE OFFICERS
The Washington Association of Counties (WSAC) annual meeting was last week in Yakima. I want to thank Margaret Viebrock and the planning committee for the excellent County Directors’ meeting and the significant contribution we made to the overall WSAC agenda. WA STATE ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES (WSAC) FOLLOW UP
Please review the PowerPoint presentation that Linda Kirk Fox, Associate Vice President and Dean, Extension, made to WSU Extension County Directors at the WASC Affiliate meeting on November 13, 2008. This presentation should generate considerable conversation regarding WSU Extension’s future in light of Federal, State and County funding uncertainties.
WESTERN GOVERNORS IMPLEMENT NATIONAL ENERGY PLAN
In a letter http://www.westgov.org/wga/testim/obama-energy11-20-08.pdf to President-elect Barack Obama, Western governors today urged swift action in adopting and implementing a national energy plan and proposed a number of measures that would transform the country’s energy infrastructure and economy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Governors Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., Chairman of the Western Governors’ Association, and Brian Schweitzer, Vice Chairman, discussed the WGA’s bipartisan recommendations with John Podesta, co-chair of Obama transition team.
EXTENSION ENERGY PROGRAM SHARES IN GRANT TO UPDATE BUILDING CODES
Washington is one of six states that will share in $2.6 million in grants awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy to update state building codes to improve energy efficiency standards. The Washington State University Extension Energy Program in Olympia will work with the state Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development to develop the revisions. SARE OUTREACH ANNOUNCES EVENT SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM
The Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) Outreach Event Sponsorship Program provides financial support for educational events that advance SARE-funded project results to beginning, minority, underserved and commodity producers and the extension and educational professionals that serve them. Visit http://www.sare.org/events/support.html to download application forms or for more information. Application deadline is December 15th.
Examples of eligible projects include, but are not limited to:
- Developing a track of conference workshops featuring SARE grant recipients as speakers
- Featuring SARE-funded grant project results in a poster session or display for beginning farmers
- Incorporating SARE-funded research sites on a farm tour for out-of-state producers and/or agricultural professionals
- Organizing conference sessions based on SARE publications
- Providing scholarships for producers who are unfamiliar with sustainable practices to attend a workshop featuring a SARE grantee
Successful proposals must advance the results of SARE-funded research or education projects by addressing one or more of the following priority areas:
- Extend innovative, sustainable production and marketing practices to producers or agricultural professionals, especially beginning, minority, underserved and/or commodity producers.
- Feature speakers, publications, or other content highlighting SARE-funded research and education projects
Facilitate networking and exchange of SARE-funded research results across state and SARE regional boundaries.

WSU Revenue Management - Dec 2 on WECN!
This course is a brief overview of cash handling and intensive training of the Billings and Receivables system. It is recommended for all those that have charges or payments that run through the billings receivables system referred to as BRS. Included in the training is the proper use and function of the Interdepartmental Requisition and Invoice (IRI) and Service Centers.
**Authorized access to BRS is a prerequisite for attending this course.**

PRE-REGISTER TODAY FOR IMAGINE TOMORROW
Only the first 150 teams to register will compete— and space is filling quickly.
If students want to compete in Imagine Tomorrow at Washington State Universityon May 29 - 31, space can be reserved today by pre-registering. Schools can pre-register as many as eight teams each without providing student names and project descriptions. If your teams are among the first 150 entries, space will be held for them until February 15. Teams that register after the first 150 will be placed on a waiting list.
To pre-register, complete the online registration form. Use obvious placeholders for information you don't have yet. For instance, you might say "Student One" in place of a student's name and "To be provided" in place of the project description. Be sure to provide information in each field (even if you just say "TBD”) and sign up at least two students per team.
