REGISTER NOW FOR NATIONAL DIVERSITY CONFERENCE IN SEATTLE
WSU Extension is among the sponsors of the National Diversity Conference April 25 – 27, 2007 in Seattle WA. Diversity Leadership: Modeling Systemic Change Registration is now open http://emmps.wsu.edu/NDC/
The National Diversity Conference is a forum for sharing evidence-based knowledge and successful diversity leadership models. These models impact organizational change in order to meet the challenges of an increasingly diverse global society. The conference is hosted by Washington State University Extension (http://ext.wsu.edu/). Sponsors include the WSU Office of the Vice President for Equity and Diversity WSU Diversity Office, USDA CSREES USDA-CSREES, and Change Agent States for Diversity and Engagement CASD/E.
This conference is designed for leadership of Land Grant Universities, including administrators, faculty and staff from extension, research, and academic programs. Private and public university partners and professional association representatives are also invited to present and attend.
Objectives:
- Showcase diversity leadership research and evidence-based successful practices for addressing program, personnel and workplace environment issues.
- Explore and analyze systemic leadership practices and policies surrounding diversity and their implications for land-grant universities.
- Share leadership models and strategies for effecting systematic organizational change in land-grant institutions/universities and the communities that they serve.
- Present the research findings and implications from the CASD/E project that address the organizational changes needed within the national land-grant institutions to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse society.
NEW CHOICES ISSUE RELEASED
Domestic farm policy and the U.S. fresh produce sector are featured topics in the latest issue of Choices magazine, now available free at http://www.choicesmagazine.org Choices is published by the American Agricultural Economics Association.
The special theme section on domestic farm policy examines economic forces of change, running current farm programs on a tighter budget, and the evolution of the rationale for government involvement in agriculture.
Examined in the package on the U.S. fresh produce sector are economic issues, market conditions, consumer purchasing decisions, ethnic produce marketing, traceability, preventive health maintenance, intermediaries, and distribution barriers confronting small-volume fruit and vegetable growers.
JOURNAL OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS
Journal of Youth Development: Bridging Research and Practice is an online resource for youth development researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. The multidisciplinary, applied refereed journal is published three times a year by the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents and focuses on the development of school-aged youth through the transition to adulthood (ages 6-22).
The Journal of Youth Development: Bridging Research and Practice http://www.nae4ha.org/directory/jyd/index.html is accepting submissions of papers for publication consideration in any of the following categories:
Feature Articles-2,000-5,000-word original research articles;
- Program Articles-1,500-word articles that highlight unique, successful, or promising youth development programs or initiatives;
- Research and Evaluation Strategy Articles-1,000-word articles that describe innovative methodologies and strategies in the collection and analysis of quantitative or qualitative research and evaluation data; and
- Resource Reviews-300-word critical reviews of resources and tools that would be helpful to youth development professionals.

UPCOMING NACDEP CONFERENCE
The National Association of Community Development Extension Professionals (NACDEP) http://www.nacdep.net/ conference "Declaration of Interdependence: The Fabric of Community" is April 16-19, 2007, in Philadelphia, PA.
Concurrent sessions will cover such topics as economic development, community decision-making, and evaluation and research. A pre-conference session entitled "We the People: Building Inclusive Communities" is also on the agenda. The conference theme and the pre-conference reflect NACDEP's commitment to building a scientific understanding of the changes impacting communities and applying that knowledge through Cooperative Extension education and outreach programs to benefit people and communities. REGIONAL ASSETS INDICATORS WEB SITE LAUNCHED
The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City recently launched a resource to assess regional innovation and entrepreneurship assets. The Regional Assets Indicators Web page http://www.kc.frb.org/RuralCenter/Indicators/Indicators_main.htm hosts a variety of tools for judging how a region is performing on key economic and demographic factors. The regional asset indicator project provides metrics that regions can use to better understand their economic assets and help inform regional development strategies. Researchers can use these metrics to explore regional attributes and growth. The metrics track important categories such as innovation, creative workforce, human amenities, wealth, infrastructure, and entrepreneurship. The Web site also includes articles that provide further information on each of the indicator categories.
YAKIMA HOSTS DIRECT MARKETING AND AGRITOURISM CONFERENCE
The Yakima Valley Visitors and Convention Bureau is hosting its second Direct Marketing and Agritourism Conference, in partnership with Washington State University's Small Farm Team February 20-21 at the Yakima Convention Center.
The two-day conference will give valuable information on how to increase revenue by welcoming visitors to their farm. Conference topics will include growing a successful farming business, designing winning websites and newsletters, creative farm marketing, informative breakout sessions and a tour of Yakima Valley wineries.
Nationally known Agritourism expert Jane Eckert is the opening keynote speaker. Jane Eckert founded Eckert AgriMarketing in 2001 and dedicates herself to helping farms, ranches, and tourism professionals learn more about Agritourism, and how to make it profitable. The closing keynote speaker is Wayne Bishop. Bishop's Pumpkin Farm in Wheatland, CA has been recognized as one of the most successful Agritourism farms in North America. Breakout sessions are also planned covering a variety of subjects relating to Agritourism and Direct Marketing.
