Topics in today's issue of Extension Update:

GOVERNOR’S SUPPLEMENTAL BUDGET

About $1.8 million in campus security improvements will be made at Washington State University by a 2008 supplemental budget proposal announced this week by Gov. Christine Gregoire. The WSU request for a feasibility study for administrative and student core computer systems was not recommended. The Global Animal Health and Agriculture request was also not funded by the governor. The Veterinary Medical Research Building would be delayed two years. All these issues will now be considered by the 2008 Legislature that convenes next month, January 2008. For more information refer to the Olympia Update No. 1, Dec. 20 http://www.olympia.wsu.edu/News/2008_News_One.aspx.

FEDERAL BUDGET

Congress has put together an omnibus bill to provide funding for all non-defense departments and agencies, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service. The $555 Billion annual omnibus spending bill was approved by Congress this week. The National Association of State University and Land Grant Colleges’ priorities fared reasonably well in the final omnibus bill. More details will be forthcoming in next week’s Extension Update and on the NASULGC web site http://www.nasulgc-bac.com/
