ALLAN JOHNSON RETURNS TO WSU PULLMAN
Allan Johnson returns to the WSU/Pullman campus October 29 and 30. This year he will give only one public address. Please encourage students, staff and faculty to attend the event: “Is Peace Possible? Gender and the Roots of War.” Johnson, author of the books Privilege, Power, & Difference and The Gender Knot , will speak on the WSU/Pullman campus October 29, 2007, 7PM, Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE) 103. NEW WSU EXTENSION TREE FRUIT HORTICULTURIST FOR YAKIMA AREA
Dr. James Olmstead has been hired as the WSU Extension Area Tree Fruit Horticulturist based in the WSU Extension Office in Yakima County effective November 1st. “Dr. Olmstead brings outstanding skills and expertise to complement the WSU Extension Tree Fruit Team in meeting the needs of the industry throughout the region,” states Randy Baldree SE District Director for WSU Extension. Olmstead hold BS and MS degrees in horticulture from WSU and a PhD in Plant Breeding & Genetics from Michigan State University. Olmstead’s work has focused on improving cultivars of perennial tree fruit crops with marker-assisted breeding and genomics technologies, and he will focus much of his effort in his new position on enhancing the adoption and application of this technology to enhance production and profitability of orchards in the state. TRIBAL RELATIONS WORKSHOP IN PUYALLUP
A Tribal Relations Workshop, “Building Effective Government and Business Relations with American Indian Tribes” will be held November 28 - 29, 2007, at the Allmendinger Conference Center at the WSU Research and Extension Center in Puyallup, WA. This dynamic interactive workshop will provide knowledge and principles of communicating in a diverse environment, trust and relationship building, and effectively working with American Indian Tribes. This workshop is in cooperation with WSU Pierce County Extension and Pierce County Home and Community Educators.

She will be in Washington, DC on Thursday through Saturday attending the multi-state project W-1005 meeting, An Integrated Approach to Prevention of Obesity in High Risk Families.
John will be in Pullman on Monday. He will be in Portland on Tuesday and Wednesday attending the Western Extension Directors Association meeting. He will be in Spokane on Thursday and Friday attending the WSU Foundation Board of Trustees meeting.
