STRATEGIC PLAN REVIEW SEEKS YOUR IMPUT
With the review of the WSU strategic plan under way this semester, your input is needed to assure that all voices are heard. Response to the survey ONLINE @ www.provost.wsu.edu has been brisk, but more input is desired.

Provost Robert Bates was scheduled to hold a strategic planning forum on the Tri-Cities campus on Sept. 27, and he invites the WSU community to these similar events:
• 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, Smith CUE 203, Pullman
• 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, Academic Center 147, Spokane
• 11 a.m.-noon Friday, Oct. 12, Administration 129, Vancouver
“We are at a pivotal time in the progression of Washington State University, both in our scholarship and in the experience we offer our students,” Bates said. “Our faculty, students and staff have a sense of being part of a dynamic institution on the go, and we would like to build on that momentum through the review and renewal of the strategic plan.” The WSU community is invited to contribute to this process by taking the brief survey, by attending one of the campus sessions, or by sending e-mail comments to strategic.plan@wsu.edu
NOTICE TO TRAVELERS – NEW PER DIEM RATES
Beginning October 1, 2007 new per diem rates will take effect for the Continental United States (CONUS). New per diem rates are available on the GSA website, www.gsa.gov, and a printable map of Washington State per diem rates is available at http://www.ofm.wa.gov/resources/travel.asp . The private vehicle mileage rate will remain at 48.5 cents per mile through the end of the calendar year. WEMIS UPDAT
As you are aware, the on-line WEMIS database has been used to collect contact data (summaries of those touched by our programs) and for fairly cursory planning process (defining days applied to each program goal).
To simplify processes, you will NOT be required to input planned days into WEMIS this year. The system will be modified to prevent anyone from adding new inputs in this section. This modification will only affect the POA input sections and will not affect your ability to input contact information.
I want to stress that this change only affects the entry of planned days in WEMIS (in the POA section). You will be expected to enter your contacts in WEMIS as before.
This does not affect WORQS or our expectations of reporting to WORQS in any way. You will be expected to report to WORQS as you did last year. Please contact John Winder, jwinder@wsu.edu, if you have any questions.
WSU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FORUM
The WSU College of Business will present the Corporate Social Responsibility Forum on October 4, 2007, 3:30–5:00 p.m. WSU Pullman in Todd Auditorium with a reception to follow.
The Corporate Social Responsibility Forum is an important component of the WSU College of Business’ efforts to educate tomorrow’s leaders on the societal and environmental impacts of business decisions. The forum will engage students and the campus community and promote the exchange of ideas and best practices around this important topic. Panelists will include Jim James, Director of Environmental Affairs, Sustainable Forestry, Weyerhaeuser; Sue Mecklenburg, Vice President of Sustainable Procurement Practices, Starbucks Coffee Company; Stefan Mühle, General Manager, Orchard Garden Hotel, San Francisco, CA; and Roger Woodworth, Vice President of Customer Solutions, Avista Utilities. NEW WSU EXTENSION POWERPOINT TEMPLATES AVAILABLE
As our efforts to successfully brand WSU Extension continue, one small, but vital, contribution we each can make is to ensure that our presentations to constituents reflect our new brand identity. New PowerPoint templates and instructions on how to use them are now available at http://ext.wsu.edu/identity/ppt/. We encourage you to use these templates for any new presentations you develop and to switch any standing presentations to the new look.
UPDATED DOCUMENTS FOR EXTENSION PUBLICATIONS
The Extension Publishing and Printing department has recently updated the procedures and the support documents necessary to have a numbered Extension publication produced. The documents can be located at http://eces.wsu.edu/print/published/ These updates include three separate documents. The first document is the Publication Submission Guidelines which is an overview of how documents need to be prepared for submission. The second document is The Publication Process which is an outline that follows all of the steps in producing a numbered publication. The third document is the Publications Packet forms which are all of the forms necessary to insure that nothing is being overlooked in the process.
