REQUEST FOR SUBMISSIONS FOR TRIBAL
NATIONS UPDATE
We are in the process of updating the publication we have
produced for the past three years titled "Washington Tribal
Nations and Washington State University Extension-A Summary of Activity"
(MISC0525). If you have delivered an educational program to a Washington
Tribal Nation or have partnered with them in a grant or other educational
program during the past calendar year and can report a measurable
outcome of this effort, please send me information about the project
or program by December 20, 2006.
Please send your submission to Scott Fedale either
in the body of an email or as an attachment saved as a Microsoft
Word document. Please DO NOT send a hard copy, as he will need to
edit your submission and send it to a designer for inclusion in
the final composite document. In your statement please focus on
the impact of your educational efforts. We are not interested in
simply reporting activity. And if you are located in a county office,
please send a copy your District Director.
If you have one or two good photos to support your text, please
send these as separate attachments. Do NOT imbed the picture files
in the body of your Email message. Please send these as digital
files of at least 300 dpi when reproduced as a 3 by 5 inch image.
We will try to deal with any file format your images may be in.
If you have not seen the 2005 edition of this publication and would
like to see examples of the type of information reported in it,
you can download a PDF file of this publication from our website

Once again, the deadline for submission is December 20. Please
try to limit your text to 600 words, if possible.
WSU EXTENSION MAP
The WSU Extension Map has been updated. Make sure you
are using the most recent version (on your Web sites, wall posters,
etc.) by going to http://ext.wsu.edu/identity/
and downloading the map (as PDF or JPEG). You can find the links
on the right side of the page.
DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR “EXTENSION
ENGAGED VIEWER SURVEY”
As part of an on-going effort to evaluate and improve
our communications/IT services, you were recently sent a very short
survey on our monthly “Extension Engaged” videostream
broadcasts.
We’ve decided to extend the response deadline for this survey
so we can hear from more of you and be sure that we’re making
our decision about the future of this program based on hearing from
those of you who have an opinion on “Extension Engaged.”
So please, if you have an opinion, take five minutes of your time
to fill out our short survey by going to:

We will close input on December 15, so please try to give us your
feedback by then.
REMINDER: GET YOUR eXtension ID
NOW!
One of the first steps to being fully engaged with the eXtension
initiative is to create an eXtension ID. By doing
so you'll be allowed to work in the eXtension collaborative
space and you'll be registered to receive routine email updates
on the initiative.

and you'll be taken to the registration page. Encourage your friends
and colleagues in Extension to do so today!
LAMBUR JOINS eXtension AS EVALUATION &
RESEARCH LEADER
Michael Lambur, Professor and Head, Extension Program and Curriculum
Development for the Virginia Cooperative Extension has accepted
the position of eXtension Evaluation and Research Leader and assumed
his new responsibilities on November 26, 2006. Mike is responsible
for evaluating how effectively eXtension is serving the educational
and informational needs of Communities of Interest through the work
of Communities of Practice. He will also be coordinating evaluation
activities that will impact various decision-making processes.

eXtension’s professional development opportunities
are open to all Cooperative Extension faculty, staff and employees.
This month we again offer several "30 Minute Sessions."
Give us 30 minutes and we¹ll teach you something useful! These
sessions will be held via Breeze at http://breeze.extension.iastate.edu/learn
and your telephone. Plan to join the session 5 minutes before the
starting time.
- Thursday, December 7 at 11:00 AM Pacific Time. "30 Minute
Session" Starting Feeds? Use Atom! -- What's it take to create
Atom feeds for news and/or other content? (for IT Staff).
- Thursday, December 7 at 1:00 PM Pacific Time. "30 Minute
Session" Feeding Frenzy an introduction to Web syndication.
Feeds are everywhere today. Even eXtension is syndicating everything.
So what are these things? How do they work? And most importantly,
how can you use them to save yourself a ton of time. Come to the
Feeding Frenzy session to learn how you can start using feeds
and change your life forever.
- Tuesday, December 12 at 1:00 PM Pacific Time. "30 Minute
Session" on Jabber eXtension’s enterprise chat application

- Thursday, December 14 at 1:00 PM Pacific Time. "30 Minute
Session" Using Collaborate for agents/educators to share
your educational materials, photos, PowerPoints, diagrams, and
other media.
To participate in any of the 30 Minute sessions:
- Five minutes before the start time, go to the Breeze meeting
room at http://breeze.extension.iastate.edu/learn.
- You will be presented with a login screen that has an "Enter
as Guest" option. Select that option and click your mouse
on the "Click to Enter" button.
- Enter your first name, your last name, and your institution/university,
then click the "Enter" button to join the conference.
- To hear the audio of the workshop and participate in the Q&A
portion of the workshop we will be using a built-in teleconferencing
capability of Macromedia¹s Breeze conferencing software.
Once you log into the meeting you will be presented with the option
to enter your call-back number, your phone will automatically
be called. After entering your number you will be automatically
called and joined into the audio portion of the Web conference
on your phone.

2007 eXtension VIDEOCONFERENCES
SCHEDULED
eXtension has established the 2007 schedule for quarterly videoconferences.
Each videoconference is scheduled on a Wednesday afternoon from
11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Pacific Time. The 2007 dates are:

EDEN PLANT BIOSECURITY MANAGEMENT
COURSE
The seasons are changing and, typically, the winter is used by farmers
to begin planning for the next year, and to attend educational meetings.
This presents a great opportunity to provide plant biosecurity management
information.
Now’s the time to promote the EDEN Pant Biosecurity Management
Course (http://www.eden.lsu.edu/LearningOps/)
to your Extension field staff who may have the opportunity to teach
agricultural producers, workers, and others who are involved or
have a vested interest in the U.S. agricultural sector how to:
- prepare for a plant biosecurity event;
- appropriately respond and recover from a plant biosecurity event;
and
- reduce the effects of future plant biosecurity events.

this course are readily available for you to download and print,

This course is also available on CD-ROM (free of charge to you).

Debra Kollock was hired as the WSU Stevens County Extension Director
effective November 20th, 2006. Many of you know Debra from her role
as the Northeast Washington Learning Center Coordinator. Debra’s
knowledge of northeastern Washington, including the issues of its
numerous and varied stakeholders, and her passion for community
development will enhance programming efforts in the NE District.
Debra has a Master Degree in Adult Education from Penn State University
and a Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising Design from Utah State
