CSREES NRI INTEGRATED PRIORITIES
INCLUDE INTEGRATED PROGRAMS
The FY 2007 National Research Initiative (NRI) request for applications
(RFA) was released last week http://www.csrees.usda.gov/funding/rfas/nri_rfa.html.
There are descriptions of 33 programs of which 17 request integrated
(proposals which specifically require an extension component) proposals.
Please note that most of the 17 programs described in this summary
document also solicit research proposals. It is necessary to consult
the RFA for information on research priorities. Also please note
that NRI integrated programs encourage projects that develop content
suitable for delivery through eXtension. Funds may be requested
to contribute to an existing Community of Practice or to form a
new Community of Practice.
Please share these funding opportunities with your faculty and
staff and encourage the preparation and submission of proposals
in areas appropriate to your needs and issues. Extension-led projects
that are well designed and well integrated are likely to fare well
in the peer review process. Please refer faculty to http://www.csrees.usda.gov/funding/integrated/integrated.html
for resources to assist applicants in applying to CSREES integrated
programs. New evaluation criteria for integrated project proposals
have been added to the NRI this year. Applicants are encouraged
to read and understand them prior to developing a proposal.
Another important change to the NRI—as well as many other
CSREES competitive programs—is the requirement in FY 2007
to submit proposals electronically via Grants.gov. Guidance for
electronic submission is contained in the NRI RFA and on the CSREES
web site at http://www.csrees.usda.gov/funding/electronic.html.
