CONGRATULATIONS FOR CONTRIBUTION
TO JOURNAL OF EXTENSION
Congratulations to you and faculty from Washington State
on their contribution to the June issue of the Journal of Extension
(www.joe.org <http://www.joe.org/>
). In case you have not yet had a chance to read this issue, the
following will be of interest:
Matt Mitchell and Bill Gillis “Perceptions of Extension's
Desirable Future and the Role of IT”
[Article No. 3FEA1]
WHETS NAME CHANGE
After a long tenure, the names WHETS (Washington Higher
Education Telecommunication System) and Pullman based ISS (Instructional
Support Services) will be retired, to be replaced by Academic Media
Services. The services will remain, and be expanded, but under a
new organizational title. In January, WHETS and Instructional Support
Services (ISS) merged, situating staff and administration in Old
Holland Library 150. Academic Media Services will combine the interactive
videoconferencing services associated with WHETS and the classroom
support and equipment rental services associated with ISS.
Staff and administration for the new unit are located in Holland
Library 150. A new web site will be previewing this summer: www.ams.wsu.edu
or www.academicmediaservices.wsu.edu.
These will also be linked from the main Educational and Public Media
(EPM) web site: media.wsu.edu. The general information phone number
is 509-335-4535.
WASHINGTON STATE: GET THE DIRT ON
WINE
Washington State: Get the Dirt on Wine. This video takes
you on a tour of Washington’s wine country with Washington
State University geologist Alan Busacca as principal host and guide
to the terrain. Read the entire article by Roger Downey in Seattle
Weekly, “Down and Dirty” (www.seattleweekly.com).

EDEN’s INVOLVEMENT IN NATIONAL
PREPAREDNESS MONTH
September is National Preparedness Month. EDEN has agreed
to be a partner in this effort, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department
of Homeland Security. What this means to you as an EDEN delegate
is that you will have information and materials readily available
to use and share if your state opts to take part in this campaign.
All of these materials, which area available at www.EDEN.lsu.edu/npm,
are EDEN-branded and have an Extension focus. Because some of you
will want to brand these pieces with your own name, they are flexible
enough for you to place your own identity within the context of
the information or design.
Please note that a number of local, state and national organizations
are getting involved in National Preparedness Month. Therefore,
your state may be planning a campaign locally or statewide. If you’re
not aware of your state’s activities but are interested, you
may want to contact your emergency management agency, Citizen Corps,
or other appropriate contacts within your state government to find
out how your state plans to participate during the month of September.
Ready.gov has a current list of participants available at: http://www.ready.gov/america/npm/members.htm.
You can also view a regularly updated list of activities nationwide
by visiting the Citizen Corps Web site. Source: Abigail Borron,
