NEW WSU AG DEGREE ORGANIC MAJOR
APPROVED
WSU has received approval from the state Higher Education
Coordinating Board to offer a Bachelor's of Science degree in Agriculture
and Food Systems starting this fall. Five majors will be offered,
including the nation's first major in organic agriculture systems.
The new interdisciplinary degree will integrate coursework from
all agricultural disciplines in the College of Agricultural, Human,
and Natural Resource Sciences. It will replace eliminated undergraduate
degrees in General Agriculture, Agricultural Technology and Management,
Entomology and Biological Systems Engineering as well as an Integrated
Cropping Systems degree at WSU Tri-Cities. See WSU Today online

MASTER GARDENER ANNUAL CONFERENCE
We are pleased to announce the 2006 WSU Master Gardener
Annual Conference is being held September 7th - 8th at South Seattle
Community College. Brochures for the conference were mailed this
week and should arrive shortly.

This year's conference is full of solid science and good fun, including

2006 NATIONAL PUBLIC POLICY EDUCATION
CONFERENCE
The National Public Policy Education Conference will be
September 17 - 20, 2006 at the Radisson Hotel Fayetteville, Fayetteville,
AR. Sponsored by the National Public Policy Education Committee
(NPPEC) and Farm Foundation, this annual conference is an opportunity
for all Extension professionals to gain valuable information on
timely public issues and improve their public issues educational
skills. The theme for the 2006 conference is Consequences of 21st
Century Food Systems. The 2006 National Public Policy Education
Conference is a cost effective way to introduce your professional
staff to cutting-edge policy issues facing numerous stakeholder
groups. The registration fee of $235 covers most meals during the

PARKER-CLARK SELECTED FOR FSLI
Congratulations to Vickie Parker-Clark, NE District Director,
on her selection to the Food System Leadership Institute. The first
conference session of the two-year Institute is in October in Chapel
Hill, NC. The FSLI offers leadership development to upper-level
leaders in higher education, government, and industry to prepare
them to meet the leadership challenges and opportunities of the
future. FSLI is a program of the National Association of State Universities
and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC) with support from the W.K. Kellogg
Foundation.
