DECEMBER 16 “EXTENSION ENGAGED: THE WSU ENERGY PROGRAM”
Mark you calendar for Friday, December 16th, 9:30-10:30 am. Increasing prices for gasoline, natural gas and electrical energy have helped renew interest in alternative and sustainable energy sources within Washington state. The WSU Extension Energy Program is at the forefront of efforts to help people and businesses cope with the high cost of energy, and to shape state's energy policy for the future. Energy Program director, Jake Fey, will talk about the program's role in addressing the energy issues and the resources available to Extension educators and WSU faculty.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR DEPENDENTS OF WSU FACULTY AND STAFF
As high school seniors are getting ready to apply for college, this is a reminder about the $1,000 scholarship available to dependents of qualifying faculty and staff.  This scholarship is also available to qualifying county-paid Extension staff and qualifying USDA ARS employees.

The scholarships are for entering, full-time, undergraduate students who have not exceeded age 25. Spouses are not eligible. The awards are renewable for a second year, if the student is making satisfactory progress towards a degree and has a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above at WSU.

Only dependents of the following are eligible:

  • WSU classified staff members holding half time or greater appointments and having permanent status or on trial service.
  • Faculty and A/P employees holding half time or greater appointments.
  • County-paid staff members having permanent status and working half time or more for WSU Extension.
  • USDA ARS paid employees having permanent status and working half time or more.

Application for this should be made at the same time as application for admission. Applications must be made on the WSU Application for Academic Scholarships form.  This is available on the WSU Web site at:
https://www.it.wsu.edu/AIS/SIC/cgi-bin/schol_app.cgi or from the Applications menu on the financial aid Web page at http://www.finaid.wsu.edu/scholar

This application covers a long list of scholarships, and all students interested in scholarship support should submit it each year.  This year’s deadline for the 2005-2006 Academic Scholarship Application is January 31, 2006, which is the same as the admissions priority deadline.  If you have questions, contact the Office of Scholarship Services (509) 335-1059.

On the application the question "Do you have a parent who works for Washington State University?" requires a yes answer as well as the name and department of the qualifying parent.

County-paid employees with dependents applying for this scholarship must apply for "public affiliate status" with the university.  Contact Becky Priebe at (509) 335-2842 for that.

This applies to all travel reimbursements, including mileage for local trips. Please adhere to this policy.

REVISED REX FORM
Due to changes in Washington state statutes on security and privacy, the Office of Grant and Research Development (OGRD) has updated the Request for Approval of Application for Extramural Support - REX form to exclude social security numbers to comply with these new regulations.  Any breach of these regulations will result in penalties to the institution.

  • Travel Authority
  • REX Forms

CALL FOR PAPERS GLOBALIZATION DIVERSITY, & EDUCATION CONFERENCE
The deadline for call for papers for the 2nd Annual Globalization Diversity, and Education Conference at Washington State University has been extended to December 12, 2005.

Diversity, a concept widely employed in conversations addressing education, is often not examined within contexts of economics, power, history, and culture. This conference will provide a forum for scholarly discussion of diversity grounded in relationships between peoples, and the economic and cultural landscapes in which they interact. We welcome and encourage the participation of students, faculty, educators, and community members in these important conversations.

We invite proposals for presentations that engage the themes of diversity and education within the contexts of globalization and diasporic movements of peoples, economies, cultures, and ideologies. We are especially interested in work that engages the topic of diversity while connecting the local with the global. Appropriate themes include, but are not limited to:

  • Global Poverty and Education
  • Social and Structural Inequality
  • Gender and Education
  • Diversity and Multicultural Education
  • Globalization and Education
  • Power and Institutions
  • Race, Ethnicity, and Identity
  • Language and Identity
  • Comparative and International Education
  • Post Colonial Studies and Education
  • Cultural Studies and Education
  • Intersections of Race, Class, Gender, Religion, Sexual Orientation

Proposals should address the theme of the conference from any disciplinary, cross-disciplinary, or trans-disciplinary perspective. Diversity is conceptualized broadly and includes languages, people, ideas, theoretical frameworks, ideologies, etc. Papers and projects that address unique and promising ways of imagining diversity both in society and in education will be especially welcomed. We invite scholarly work from a variety of traditional academic disciplines and approaches. Proposals from graduate students and professionals/practitioners are encouraged. Proposals for individual papers, panels, symposiums, film/documentary screenings, poster sessions, and other creative endeavors that address the conference theme are solicited.

For more information visit the conference Web site: http://www.emmps.wsu.edu/globalization/ or contact Bernardo Gallegos or Steve Naranjo, Globalization, Diversity and Education, Washington State University, College of Education, Cleveland Hall, Room 352,  PO Box 642114, Pullman, WA 99164-2114, 509-335-3069, Fax: 509-335-6961.
