Topics in today's issue of Extension Update:
AGRICULTURAL WATER SECURITY INITIATIVE
AND WHITE PAPER: CSREES
To
quote our own WSU Extension specialist, Dr. James P. Dobrowolski,
who is working in CSREES, Washington D.C. on a temporary
assignment, “It’s been a banner week for the folks
working on agricultural water security (AWS) at CSREES.”
The water resources awards out of Cooperative State Research,
Education and Extension Service (CSREES), where both Request
For Applications were influenced by our efforts in AWS, were
announced by the Secretary of Agriculture (http://www.usda.gov/wps/portal/usdahome,
click on the full article “USDA AWARDS MORE THAN $14 MILLION
IN WATER RESOURCES GRANTS.”
In addition, the CSREES Agricultural Water Security White Paper
has been prepared in response to a topic suggested by the Land
Grand University Partnership Working Group. This paper
charts a course towards sustainable water use by introducing
a new initiative to secure adequate water supplies for domestic
water consumption, ecosystem services, recreation, and aesthetics
while meeting the needs of food and fiber production; and by
describing national agricultural water security goals and partners
to create and enhance research, education, and extension programs
funded by CSREES.
The
paper is posted on the CSREES Web site.
