INPUT FOR REPORT ON TRIBAL PARTNERSHIPS DUE SEPTEMBER 15
Scott Fedale is in the process of updating the publication we produced last year on "Washington Tribal Nations and Washington State University Extension-A Summary of Activity" (MISC0525) .

If you have delivered an educational program to a Washington Tribal Nation or have partnered with them in a grant or other educational program during the past budget year, please send to Scott Fedale information about the results of this effort by September 15, either in an email or as an attachment saved as a Microsoft Word document. Please DO NOT send a hard copy. In your statement please focus on the impact of your educational efforts. We are not interested in simply reporting activity.

If you have one or two good photos to support your text, please send these as separate files. Do NOT imbed the picture files in your email message. Please send these as digital files of at least 300 dpi when reproduced as a 3 by 5 inch image. We will try to deal with any file format your images may be in.

Once again, the deadline for submission is September 15. Please try to limit your text to 600 words if at all possible.

LOOKING FOR IDEAS FOR WSU EXTENSION MARKETING ITEMS
We are looking for new ideas for Washington State University Extension marketing items that might be of interest to our Extension family. Email your suggestions to Kathy Stilwell by Friday, September 16th. So far we have heard from some of you suggesting window clings that read “Washington State University Extension” and leather portfolios with the Extension logo.

We currently have a few items in stock at Bulletins and available through the Web at: http://ext.wsu.edu/marketing. These items include:

  • Translucent black pen with the Extension logo in white. Black ink color. Comfortable grip.
  • Lapel pin with the Extension logo in crimson and gray. White background, oval.
  • Post It Cube 3/4" x 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" white paper with the Extension logo in crimson and gray.
  • Crimson ceramic 16 ounce mug with the Extension logo in white.

We are unable to stock wearable items such as shirts, hats, and jackets. Therefore, our plan is to place two bulk orders a year for wearable items, once in the fall and once in the spring. Notices will be included in the weekly Extension Update and on the marketing Web site, notifying you of what items are available and how to place your order. Payment will be required at the time an order is placed.

Show your Cougar pride by wearing and displaying merchandise with the Washington State University Extension logo! We look forward to hearing from you with ideas for new items.

2006 NW PARENTING AND FAMILY EDUCATION CONFERENCE UPDATE
Roni Cohen-Sandler, Ph.D. to be featured speaker on Friday, March 17 at the 2006 NW Parenting and Family Education Conference in Vancouver. Dr. Cohen Sandler is the author of three books including STRESSED-OUT GIRLS: Helping Them Thrive in the Age of Pressure, which will be released this month.

Dr. Cohen-Sandler draws upon her clinical work, numerous interviews, and a comprehensive survey of 3,000 teens from independent, urban, and suburban schools to provide a rare and candid glimpse into the inner lives of girls today. Pinpointing the often hidden early warning signs of stress, Dr. Cohen-Sandler will present strategies that parents and educators can use to help boost girls’ resilience and confidence—before they become vulnerable to serious problems like depression, eating disorders, substance abuse and school failure. For more information, check out the conference Web site.

NASULGC NAMES NEW PRESIDENT
Peter McPherson, President Emeritus of Michigan State University, will become the new President of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC) on January 1, 2006.

In addition to leading Michigan State for 11 years, McPherson, a former top Treasury Department official and head of the Agency for International Development, also has been active in efforts to end hunger in Africa and to expand international study abroad. During a five-month leave of absence from the university in 2003, he worked in Iraq as Director of Economic Policy for the Coalition Provisional Authority of Iraq.

McPherson will succeed Dr. C. Peter Magrath, who announced last December that he would leave the presidency of NASULGC at the end of 2005 to become a Senior Adviser to the College Board and do consulting work. Magrath has led the organization since January 1, 1992.
