The NE District Director's
office will move to the WSU Spokane campus on Monday, June 6, 2005.
They will be co-located with Ed
Adams and Linda Loos temporarily until completion of a new building
expected to be ready in August.

2005 TOUR DE L'ETAT - SOUTHWEST DISTRICT
The Washington
State University Extension Provost Tour of the Southwest District
is a unique opportunity for invited participants
to see WSU Extension in action. An ambitious agenda has been scheduled
for the 32 participants excepted for this tour June 14-16.
Some of the highlights of the tour's activities and opportunities
for the participants to learn about some of the things WSU Extension
is doing in the Southwest District to improve the lives of Washington's
citizens include:
A stop at WSU Thurston County Extension Office to hear about
some of many programs they are involved in including: Water
Resources, Native Plant Salvage Project, Water Resource Education
Program
for Real Estate Professionals, Food Safety and Food $ense,
and University Wide Extension/Priorities of Government and Ethics
Training and a tour of the WSU Master Gardener's demonstration
site at the Olympia Farmer's Market.
In Mason County, tour participants will visit the Little Skookum
Shellfish Farm and hear about Water Quality program efforts and
the WSU Mason County Extension/Conservation District position.
Participants will take part in a Ropes Course Challenge Activity
at Camp Panhandle and learn about some of the many programs WSU
Mason County Extension is involved in including: the 4-H Forest
Intern Program, Special Forest Products, Master Gardener Community
Food Bank Project, and the Hispanic Community Outreach Program
Children Youth and Families at Risk (CYFAR).
At Grays Harbor County, the group will learn about more Extension
Programs taking place in the state including: Youth Development
for Tribal Audiences, College: It's Not a Dream, It's a Plan -
The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs
(GEAR UP), Developing Healthy Eating Habits for Kids - The Family
Nutrition Education Program, Expanding Volunteer Capacity - Community
Development and Horticulture, Building Community Partnerships -
WSU Learning Center
- Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties and Grays Harbor College, Aquaculture
Research and Extension - Western Regional Aquaculture Center, and
WSU/University of Idaho Aquaculture Initiative Programs.
While in Pacific County the highlights of the tour will include
information on Spartina and Burrowing Shrimp Management, the Palix
River, WSU Long Beach and their Cranberry Production, a visit to
Cape Disappointment and the Lewis and Clark Center to learn about
the Pacific Ocean Marine Resources Program.
The tour will stop at the WSU Learning Center - Cowlitz and Wahkiakum
Counties located on the Lower Columbia College Campus where they
will hear from Dr. James McLaughlin, President of Lower Columbia
College and others to learn about various programs taking place
at the Learning Center and in Wahkiakum, Lewis, and Cowlitz counties
including: the Spanish Immersion Program, WSU Distance Degree Programs,
Food Banks and Nutrition, Diabetes Prevention, After School Programs,
Strengthening Families Program, and Coached Forest Stewardship.
In Clark County, the participants will partake in a Food Pyramid
Sundae while learning about the new food pyramid as well as other
programs going on in the county including: Agriculture as Economic
Development, Food & Nutrition (Physical Activity/Healthier
Snacks/Nutrition Education), and the Restorative Community Service
Garden.
At WSU Vancouver, the group will learn about the WSU Vancouver
Institute/Extension Partnership, Sustainable Agriculture at WSU
Vancouver Research and Extension Unit, and will hear from Hal Dengerink
and Bruce Romanish regarding the Vision and Future for WSU Vancouver.
Each tour participant will receive a binder including a section
for each county in the southwest district providing additional
information on what goes on for WSU in the Southwest District.
It is our hope that after three intense days of travel and learning
participants will return to their offices with a new understanding
and appreciation for all that WSU Extension does.
SCHEDULE Next week Linda is in Pullman on Tuesday. She will be attending
the CECEPS annual meeting the remainder of the week. CECEPS is
the Cooperative Extension, Continuing Education and Public Service
section of NASULGC. Next week Ed is on annual leave.
