Topics in today’s issue of Extension Update:
NE DISTRICT DIRECTOR CANDIDATE INTERVIEWS
Four
candidates will be interviewing for the NE District Director position
on May 20th and 25th at WSU Spokane in Health Sciences
Building HSB 110A. Complete interview schedules and applicant files
will be posted on the Web for
your review.
On Friday, May 20th M. Christine Price, Extension Director and
leader for the 4-H Youth program of Grant County and Jim Lindstrom
4-H faculty and Team Leader for WSU Extension, Spokane County will
be interviewed.
On Wednesday, May 25th, Vickie J. Parker-Clark, District 1 Director
for the University of Idaho and Ray Faini, Interim Director for
the NE District and Extension Director for Chelan County/Director
of the WSU Learning Center of North Central Washington will be
interviewed.

album of the 2005 All
Extension Conference. Be sure to check it out.
Photos can be printed from the files on the Web or if a high-resolution
image (print quality) is required you may contact Gerald

and he will send you the high-resolution file.
KING COUNTY COUNCIL RECOGNITION OF 4-H
The King County Council
will recognize the 4-H Youth Development Program. Mark your calendars
for May 23, 2005 at 1:30p.m. The recognition
will take place in the King County Council chambers at the King
County Courthouse, 516 Third Avenue
Room 1200 (Council Chambers), Seattle, WA 98104. At the recognition
ceremony, the entire Council will be provided information about
the total community service and volunteer hours that each club
has reported. Congratulations to all!
WESTERN EXTENSION DIRECTOR AWARDS
There were eight strong nominations
submitted for consideration as WSU Extension’s selections
to forward for the Western Extension Director Awards. Unfortunately
as you know, we were only
allowed to send two forward from Washington. The two nominations
from WSU Extension are:
- Living on the Land: Stewardship for Small Acreages (submitted
by Doug Stienbarger)
- Western Regional Institute for Community Oriented Public Safety
(submitted by Kelsey Gray and Mike Erp).
On behalf of the Administrative Team, I would like to thank all
you for taking the time to nominate your excellent programs. We
will let you know later in July the status of our submissions for
the regional consideration.
LEAD21 PARTICIPANTS FROM WSU
Extension and the College of Agricultural,
Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) are sponsoring these
three individuals
who will begin the two-year LEAD21 program:
- Hans Kok, Conservation Tillage Specialist, WSU/UI, Moscow
- Randy Baldree, SE District Director, Tri-Cities
- Jill Armstrong Shultz, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Pullman
LEAD21 is the new program replacing NELD (National Extension Leadership
Development program) and the similar leadership programs of the
experiment station and academic programs, all rolled into one called
Leadership Development for the 21st Century: Linking Research,
Academics, and Extension. Session I of the LEAD21 program will
be held June 25-30, 2005 at the University Place Conference Center
and Hotel, Indianapolis, Indiana. Congratulations to the interns
from WSU in the Inaugural class of LEAD21.
VIDEO STREAM PRESENTATION OF “MISSION TO DC”
The third “Mission to DC Highlights” presentation
was held Thursday, May 12th. Faculty summarized their specific
trip and its benefits, including positive collaborative interactions
that transpired. They also talked about whom they met with, what
programs the officers oversee and any information that would be
of interest to other faculty. The presentations are digitally recorded
and posted to the OGRD Web site.

WORKSHOP ACCOUNTS FOR EXTENSION EDUCATORS – FISCAL
AND ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT
It’s been a full year since we implemented “Workshop
Accounts for Extension Educators – Fiscal and Administrative
Management.” From conversations, this appears to still be
an unknown opportunity to some of you. If that is the case, I’d
encourage you to review the videostream
on the Video

The presenters are Mary Hoffman and Detlef Decker. Mary will describe
the specifics of accounts intended for workshop fees. We will define
the difference between workshops and large scale conferences and
therefore, how the workshop accounts differ from conferences. She
will be joined by Detlef Decker, Extension Meeting Management +
Program Support. He will share important tips for planning a successful
workshop. Detlef, drawing from his years of experience in conference
administration, will also highlight some common financial pitfalls
and items that may catch an auditor’s eye.
