LIVESTOCK PRODUCER EDUCATION
A grant-funded livestock producer education
effort coordinated by Tip Hudson and Joe Harrison will begin with
a statewide water quality
conference April 20 - 22 in Leavenworth. The workshop, a cooperative
effort among Washington Association of Conservation Districts (WACD),
Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Department of Ecology
(DOE), Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA), Washington
Cattlemen's Association (WCA), and Washington State University Extension
(WSUE), is directed toward helping technical service providers better
assist livestock producers to assess their risk of water quality
pollution, especially the potential for “point-source” pollution
from confinement areas.
This workshop is the first step in a comprehensive
outreach program for livestock operations of all sizes; the workshop
will provide familiarity with the applicable state and federal
regulations as well as current working relationships among the enforcement
agencies,
and provide a practical understanding of water quality principles
and how to methodically and accurately assess potential water quality
problems on livestock operations of all sizes. For more information,
email Tip Hudson to receive
a brochure, or see an Online
Brochure from the Web site http://capps.wsu.edu/waterquality/ or
contact Janet York to register. Submitted by Linda Loos
