DROUGHT UPDATE
The drought situation in Washington and surrounding states continues to get worse. WSU Extension recently updated its drought Web site with new contacts and links. See drought.wsu.edu for information and contacts. Rich Koenig, specialist in Crop and Soil Sciences has been asked to sit on the WA State Executive Water Emergency Committee and coordinate updates to WSU Extension's drought Web site. Contact Rich at 335-2726 with questions or updates to the site.

ALL EXTENSION CONFERENCE FOLLOW-UP
I would like to thank the 2005 All Extension Conference Planning Committee, again for an excellent conference. We had over 350 people in attendance. To help the 2007 Planning Committee, please complete the conference evaluation.

Cam Marston's new book, Managing Across the Generational Divide, is scheduled for release this Spring It will be available from his company's Web site.

Rebecca Thorgaard is handling orders for Hall of Champions posters. These are not free. There is a $20 price tag per poster (includes mailing and mailing tube). So be prepared to work with Rebecca on the budget to cover costs. The HoC posters will be posted on the Web site http://ext.wsu.edu/BC/ along with previous years' winners.

SEMINAR MARCH 14: THE UNIVERSITY - USAID PARTNERSHIP
Dr. David Sammons, Associate Dean of International Agriculture, Purdue University will be visiting WSU on March 14, 2005. Dr. Sammons is currently on leave from Purdue University to USAID/Washington, DC where he is working on university participation in US development and the incorporation of agriculture into USAID policies and strategies. In this temporary position, he is visiting selected universities around the US to learn about their interests and activities in international development and participation with USAID. He will share information about university participation in USAID funded development activities.

Dr. Sammons' visit is an opportunity for us to further establish relationships with the USAID unit responsible for agriculture and economic development and capitalize on Dr. Sammons' presence in Washington, DC with USAID. You are invited to attend a seminar Dr. Sammons giving a seminar on Monday, March 14, 1:30 pm in Bryan 205 entitled "The University-USAID Partnership: A Dialogue on Strengthening the Mission".

VIDEO EVENT DIGITAL LIBRARIES
Join us Wednesday, March 16, 2005, 10:30am - 12:00pm PST for the national Digital Libraries satellite and videostream event. The Pullman campus location is FSNH T101, please be in your seat by 10:15 am.

Program description and guests: What does the trend towards digitizing all of our information mean for the future of information access? Will we still need our "traditional" libraries? What will be the impact of the recent Google announcement about a project to scan and archive parts of the collections of some major research universities?

The program will feature a look at the present state of the digital information revolution as it pertains to libraries at academic institutions and organizations.

Guests include: David Seaman, Director of the Digital Library Federation; Peter Young, director of the National Agricultural Library and Ginny Steele, director of libraries for Washington State University.

This national broadcast is being produced in cooperation with the American Distance Education Consortium as part of their IDEAL3 distance learning project.

A.J. DYE RETIRES FROM CSREES
On March 1, 2005 A.J. Dye will end a nearly 29-year career with USDA.

A.J. is CSREES' Assistant Administrator for Program and Analysis. He has served in that capacity since the Agency's formation in 1994. In 1986 A.J. moved to the Federal Extension Service as the Assistant Deputy Administrator for Agricultural Programs.

CSREES: DENNIS KOPP BEGINS ROLE AS ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR FOR PROGRAM AND ANALYSIS
Dennis Kopp will assume the position of CSREES Assistant Administrator for Program and Analysis effective March 2, 2005. Dennis was trained as an entomologist at the University of Missouri-Columbia. In 1990 he joined the Cooperative Extension Service in Washington, DC, as the national program leader for the National Agricultural Pesticide Impact Assessment Program (NAPIAP). In CSREES, he served as plant section leader in the Plant and Animal Systems for seven years, helped evolve the NAPIAP funding line into Regional IPM Centers, and recently served 6 months as a LEGIS fellow on Capitol Hill. Go to the Extension "Meet Your New Colleagues" Web site to meet Kathy Barnard, who has joined the WSU Extension faculty as a senior public relations specialist effective February 21 and Erin Harwood who joined the WSU Extension faculty as a Small Acreage Outreach Educator in Brush Prairie in January.

SCHEDULE
Next week Linda will be in Pullman Monday through Thursday. On Friday she will be in Olympia speaking at the House Higher Education Committee during a work session on Learning Centers, Continuing education, and Other Extended Learning Opportunities in Higher Education. Next week Ed will be in Spokane Monday through Wednesday. He will be in Olympia on Thursday for the Conservation Commission meeting and in Pullman on Friday meeting with the Dairy Commission.
