eXtension
Dan Cotton and Carla Craycraft gave a great overview of eXtension during All Extension Conference this week. To learn more about the prototype, please check out eXtension on the Web . The new intranet Web site will be an important vehicle for participating in the eXtension initiative. It's a place ideas can be developed, shared and worked on collaboratively. The site is written in an application called Xaraya, which provides the mechanism for user registration and facilitation. The site features news, document sharing, Web links and an address book. It supports interactive services including moderated discussion forums and calendaring.

NW PARENTING CONFERENCE
We need your help in getting the word out about the NW Parenting Conference that will be held in Spokane March 31st and April 1st. The conference provides high quality professional development for anyone working with families, parents and youth. This year we are featuring Dr. Deborah Stipek who is the Dean of the School of Education at Stanford University. She will be delivering a keynote and doing a 3 hour special session on Motivating Minds, How to help your children and others children to love learning. Dr. Stipek, who grew up in Tacoma, is the first Early Childhood Educator to be the Dean of a major university's school of education.

For those who are more focused on teen development we are pleased to welcome Dr. David Walsh who is one of the nation's leading spokespeople on the effects of video games on children's minds. He is an exciting speaker. He is also in the final stages of publishing a book on Adolescent Brain Development.

There are many other wonderful workshops that would be of benefit to you and the people with whom you collaborate in your counties. We know many of you have contacts and good working relationships with schools and other agencies who are interested in the broad topics of effectively guiding the development of children and youth. Please take the time to let your colleagues and partners know about the conference. We would especially appreciate those who are in Eastern and Central Washington helping us get the word out. The early registration deadline has been extended to the 8th of March.

See the conference Web site.

WSU FACILITIES UPKEEP
Washington State University has been fortunate enough to have received a significant increase in minor capital funding for the improvement of campus facilities. However, it was noticed that shortly after some hallways were painted building occupants placed posters and signs on the walls. These have been taped, tacked and some even stapled. You are asked that all postings be limited to bulletin boards as stated in WAC 504-34-140, Advertising Policies. With your assistance we can ensure that these improvements keep our facilities looking good for many years to come.
