Topics in today’s issue of Extension Update:
SURVEY COMING YOUR WAY ON WORKPLACE CLIMATE
I wanted
to alert you to an opportunity that will be coming your way soon.
Washington State University Extension has joined in an
seven state study sponsored by USDA Cooperative State Research, Education,
and Extension Service (CSREES) to learn more about the workplace
climate relative to issues of diversity. I am hoping that you will
take 15 to 20 minutes to help us understand the current climate for
diversity within our organization by filling out a survey.
For those attending All Extension Conference in Pullman March 1 – 3,
the survey will be administered after lunch on Tuesday, March 1.
For those of you not attending the conference, the survey will be
mailed to your office and arrive there the week of February 28th.
This survey is your opportunity to describe, in your own words,
any diversity related incidents that you have personally experienced
and/or observed. You will also be able to offer suggestions for changes
that might enhance the climate. Your responses will be used to identify
strategies for addressing issues and supporting positive diversity
initiatives. All of your answers will remain anonymous and your participation
in this project is voluntary.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this important project,
as we all work together to create and sustain a welcoming workplace
environment.
DIVERSITY CATALYST TEAM—CHANGE AGENT STATES FOR ENGAGEMENT
(CASE)
Washington State University values the broadest inclusion,
promotes the highest achievement, and provides the greatest opportunity
for
every member of our statewide, national, and international communities.
The Diversity Catalyst Team is a task force for WSU Extension’s
CASE project. It is made up of a representative group from many sectors
of the organization. This team encompasses members of all group identities
across the range of differences that include but are not limited
to gender, race, sexual orientation, spiritual beliefs, abilities,
class, rank, tenure, and age. The team is supported by the organization
to work together to design the vision and the implementation strategies
that create the climate for change. The team works in partnership
with the administrative leadership to actualize the strategies, and
serves as a resource to the system on diversity and multicultural
organizational development. The Catalyst Team met for the first time
this week. Look for updates in the near future from Mary Katherine
Deen, Director of Diversity for WSU Extension.

REMINDERS FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS
What do Argentina,
Rwanda, Mexico, and the Philippines have in common? These are all
foreign countries where WSU Extension professional
are currently working or headed to in the very near future. But there
are a couple of things to think about if you are planning on international
work in the near future.
- If you are an employee of Extension you should be authorized
for international travel before you leave the country by obtaining
signed approval for the Travel Authority to a foreign country
from the Dean and Director of Extension.
- Effective immediately, when traveling on Foreign Travel the
TEV preparer must print off a currency conversion for each and
every
receipt attached. The dates on the conversion must match the
date on the receipt. This is a new rule that the auditors have
into effect.
If you have any questions contact Michelle Ely in the CAHNRS Business
and Finance Office.
