REMINDER: DEADLINE NEARING
FOR KARL HOBSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Washington
State University Foundation and WSU Extension in
collaboration with the Karl Hobson family have established the
Karl Hobson Memorial Scholarship Fund for the support of professional
development opportunities for Extension faculty, staff and volunteers.
This fund is dedicated to the development of both volunteers and
professional staff who show promise for enhanced performance following
the selected training.
There are some restrictions on the use of these funds: Applicant
must be WSU Extension professional staff or volunteer. No portion
of the funds may be used for support of or promotion of work assorted
with the alcohol industries including hop and wine grape production.
Applicant can request up to $1000. The actual award amount will
be dependent upon the number of applications received and the amount
available for distribution. Applicant must have a major assignment
in WSU Extension. Applicant must have completed at least one year
of successful Extension work. The award will be made to the awardee(s)
upon their enrollment in the selected training. Scholarship must
be used within a 12-month period following award announcement.

to Pat BoyEs, by June 1, 2005.
Karl Hobson Memorial Fund Application requires you complete all
of the following information:
- Your Name, Address, Phone, Email
- Your role in Extension
- Years of Service to Washington State University
- Amount of Funding Requested
- Total Cost of the Training
- Describe the training for which you are seeking support.
- How will this training benefit your specific assignment?
- Upon successful completion of the selected training, how
will you measure the impact of your improved program efforts?
- What will be your measure of success?

Four additional
Civil Service Reform Information sessions have been scheduled through
Human Resource Services. These information
sessions will feature an overview of changes resulting from the
July 1, 2005 implementation of Civil Service Reform. To learn more
about the scheduling details and to enroll online, please use the

USDA TO CONDUCT NATIONAL FARM BILL LISTENING SESSIONS
USDA Secretary
Johanns has announced that the Department will conduct a nationwide
series of listening sessions. More

ASSOCIATE VICE PROVOST NAMED FOR INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS
Professor Lance T. LeLoup has accepted the post of associate
vice provost for International Programs. He will begin on Sept. 1.
Robert
Harder, director of International Programs, is set to retire at
the end of the summer. LeLoup is an Edward R. Meyer Distinguished
Professor in the Department of Political Science. His research
and teaching interests center on the legislatures, executives and
budgetary politics in the U.S. and abroad. The full story is in

FEDALE RECEIVES ADEC'S IRVING AWARD
Scott V. Fedale, chair of the
information department of Washington State University's College
of Agricultural, Human, and Natural
Resource Sciences, received the 2005 Irving Award at the annual
meeting of the American Distance Education Consortium in New Orleans
on April 27. The Irving Award is the organization's highest honor.
The award is named for Irvin Omtvedt, ADEC's first board chair.
ADEC is a non-profit distance education consortium of 65 state
university and land-grant colleges. ADEC promotes high quality,
economical distance education programs and services to diverse
audiences by land-grant colleges and universities. The full story
