Topics in today’s issue of Extension Update:
INTERIM NE DISTRICT DIRECTOR
Effective January 3,
2005, Ray Faini will assume the WSU Extension Interim NE District
Director position. Ray will retain his duties
as Chelan County Director and maintain his office in Wenatchee.
He will participate with the WSU Extension Administrative Team,
and monitor NE District budgets, approve travel, and other expenses.
Ray will manage personnel including the annual review, 3rd year
review, promotion and tenure, county director reappointments, county
faculty searches, and professional development processes for the
district. In addition Ray will work with County Directors to maintain
internal and external relationships, and meet with County Commissioners
on as needed basis to update and discuss county programs. Mary
Enquist, Principal Assistant, will continue as the support person
for the district. Her office will remain in the Colville location
until the permanent position is filled.
Jim Kropf, NW District Director, will chair the search committee
for the permanent NE District Director position. Calendar year
2004 annual reviews for NE District County Directors will be conducted
by Ed Adams, Interim Associate Dean and Associate Director.
WSU EXTENSION WORLD CLASS FACULTY REPRESENTATIVES
Washington State
University’s World Class Representatives
list is now in its fourth year. University Relations uses this
list to identify faculty to showcase in the integrated marketing
program, including undergraduate and graduate student recruitment
materials in print and Web, print and television advertising, media
relations, and for speaker placements at a variety of events. This
list is for internal use only and has proved very useful in identifying
faculty for the myriad of projects produced in Marketing Communications
and for communication colleagues throughout the University.
WSU Extension administration recognizes the following faculty
as our 2004 additions to the WSU World Class Faculty Representatives:
David Baumgartner, Drew Betz, James Dobrowolski, Scott Fedale,
Chris Feise, Olga Fuste’, Bill Gillis, Kay Kelsey Gray, Don

RENTAL CAR USE CLARIFICATION
To clarify use of the Enterprise Rent-A-Car
contract and other car rental agencies:
WSU has a contract with Enterprise Rent-A-Car; however, the contract
is not mandatory. The contract has the potential for significant
savings and WSU encourages the use of it but the use should not
be based solely on the savings. Everyone needs to make decisions
based on total cost including an allowance for time. When using
the Enterprise contract please reference contract number WA45000.
Budget Rent A-Car has offered to honor the terms of the previous
contract through January 2005. This includes all rates and insurance.
When reserving a car it is crucial to reference the contract or
BCD number, T356320. The contract number ensures all rates and
insurance are included.
If another car rental agency is used other than Enterprise or
Budget, insurance must be purchased for the rental to ensure coverage
in case of accident. If insurance is declined, the renter’s
personal insurance is primary for any accident or damage to the
vehicle.

CALL FOR PRESENTERS – 2005 NAE4-HA NATIONAL CONFERENCE
The
Washington State 4-H Association invites you to participate in
the 2005 NAE4-HA Annual Conference, held in Seattle, October
30-November 4, 2005, by submitting a presentation proposal. Participants
will “Better Their Best…” as they: honor our
4-H Traditions, chart the latest Trends in youth development, and
embrace innovative Technology. Join us by submitting a proposal
for one of four types of presentations and sharing your knowledge
and experience with us. The guidelines for submitting a proposal
and the four presentation types can be found online at: http://nae4ha.wsu.edu.
Proposals for presentations at the 2005 Conference will be submitted
via the 2005 Conference
Web site. Proposals must be submitted by
12:00 midnight (PST), Saturday, January 15, 2005. Go to the Web
site listed below and fill out the form. Click the Submit button
and your abstract will be submitted. You will receive an e-mail
confirmation of your submission.

DISTANCE DEGREE PROVIDES ON-SITE EDUCATION IN COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT
The
North Central Regional Center for Rural Development is part of
an alliance of eight universities and tribal colleges through
the American Indian Highest Education Consortium that has begun
the design of an interactive master’s degree in community
development. This degree will provide knowledge, networks, credentials
and the administrative structure to make it accessible to rural
professionals where they are. The on-line core courses and specialized
tracks provide cutting edge knowledge of the theory and practice
of community economic development. The interactive course design
connects learners with their professors and with each other.
The core courses include: Organizing for Community Change, Community
and Regional Economic Policy and Analysis, Community Natural Resource
Management, Community Analysis, and Principles and Strategies of
Community Change. The specialized tracks include: Building Economic
Capacity, Working with Native Communities, Local and State Government
Policies, Natural Resource Management, Nonprofit Leadership, and
Administration and Management.

SCHEDULE
Next week, December 6 -10, Linda will be in Pullman Monday
morning, Thursday afternoon and Friday. She’ll be in Seattle Monday
afternoon and Tuesday hosting the conference Partnering Together
to Prevent Childhood Obesity, and in Spokane Wednesday and Thursday
morning for the PM10 program Cooperative State Research, Education
and Extension Service (CSREES) external review. Next week Ed will
be in Spokane except on Friday when he’ll be in Pullman.
