Topics in today’s issue of Extension Update:
“EXTENSION TODAY” DEBUTS
IN WSU TODAY
An expanded edition of WSU Today is arriving in most university
mailboxes today and Friday. We have changed the former twice-annual “Extension
Focus” to a four times per year insert in WSU Today. Changing
to this format will offer more frequent distribution at a total cost
less than half what we paid for the Focus. I know you will enjoy
the new look and placement in the university’s best read publication
(and online format). Thanks to College of Agricultural, Human, and
Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) Information Department staff for
making this possible.
A few of the article topics include:
- Academic structure/restructure considered systemwide
- Transfer students show equal performance despite pitfalls
- Equity/diversity related office merged
- Regent Scholars --- hats off to those who selected them
- Impact of I-884 considered
- $1.2M to dig into Coeur d'Alene Lake
- $1.57M to boost rural nursing
- Extension Today --- see it for the first time!
- More grants should result in more Ph.D. students
- Union vote pending
- Teaching and Learning Grants
In addition, a full online PDF version of the newspaper
is available at WSU Today online; just
click on the PDF Archive link in the top left corner.

NEW STATE CONTRACTED ON-LINE TRAVEL AGENCY
Effective immediately
WSU travelers now have the option of procuring airfare, hotel rooms
and Enterprise rental cars through a new on-line
travel service contracted by the State of Washington. Boersma Travel
is currently the only State contract authorized Internet provider
approved for booking on-line travel arrangements for WSU travelers.
The booking fee is $5.00. The on-line service, offered by Boersma
Travel, provides:
Real time reservations, plus Web fares (reduced rates) for selected
commercial airlines.
Similar search parameters as other on-line travel services, state
government rates (hotels) and state contracted rates (airfares/rental
cars.) The fees are $5.00 for on-line booking and $18.00 fee for agent
assisted reservations.
No booking agent fee for cancellations, unless re-booking at later
date (airline specific cancellation charges may apply such as change
fees, late cancellations fees, etc.). Travelers can continue to
use existing qualified State contract travel agencies. How to Obtain Travel Services Using the State's On-Line Travel Service:
- First-time users must register an account on the State's
on-line travel service site. You will be prompted to
provide your name, e-mail address, a user-defined password, and
company/organization.
For organization name, please enter: Washington State University.
After registering, traveler's login using their e-mail address
and user defined password. First time users should also view the
on-line
tutorial.
- Complete the WSU Travel Authorization form (TA) to obtain
approval from your supervisor and budget authority for the applicable
account(s)
to be charged.
- Purchase airline tickets and make hotel and /or rental car
reservations on-line at: www.wsutravel.com.
Airfare should be purchased with the department CTA account. Hotel
and Enterprise rental car reservations and payment can be made using
the WSU State Travel Charge card or personal credit card. For group
travel, the system provides booking up to nine airline seats per
transaction.
Airfare should not be purchased from a non-qualified travel agency
or with personal resources except in certain emergencies. Please
do not use any on-line travel service not contracted through the
State of Washington. At this time the only State contract on-line
travel service is Boersma
Travel.
All State and University travel policies and regulations still apply.
For assistance with the on-line system and/or booking contact Boersma
Travel directly (there is no charge for technical assistance). Day:
