MASTER GARDENER CONFERENCE IN OCTOBER
The 2004 Master Gardener
Annual Conference is October 14-16 in Olympia. The Conference
brochure and registration form are now
available online.
Space is limited so please pass this information to your volunteers
as soon as possible.
EXTENSION MID-MANGERS CONFERENCE
RESOURCES ONLINE
Thank you to
Blair for chairing the Western Region Mid-Managers Conference which
was a great success in July in San Diego. Several
from WSU attended; you may want to contact these folks to learn
more about the 2004 conference: Chris Jackson, Doug Stienbarger,
Debbie Moberg, Arno Bergstrom, Jim Lindstrom, Erik Sorensen, Jim
Kropf, Ed Adams, Wayne Madson, and Blair Wolfley. Many of the presentation
materials will be posted
online.
Mark your calendar for July 12-14, 2005 when Mid-Managers will
be held in Santa Fe, NM.

NEW SEASON OF "EXTENSION ENGAGED" BEGINS IN
SEPTEMBER

broadcast series, "Extension Engaged.”
The Extension Spanish Immersion Institute

Program Description and Guests:

The broadcast will feature a look at the Spanish Immersion Institute,
which is now being offered at 6 WSU Learning Centers. We’ll
find out how the program works, what it does, and how it does it
and hear from some graduates of the program about how it’s
helped them in their professional lives. The Division of Governmental Studies and Services

We’ll learn about this recent addition to WSU Extension
and hear about some of the programs they are conducting with local
governments and other audiences in Washington State, including
the Certified Public Official Training and the Natural Resource
Leadership Academy.
Organic Livestock: Principles, Practices, and Prospects
October 29, 10:00 a.m. - noon PST

This
national satellite broadcast will examine the basics of organic
livestock production and the opportunities
it presents. The broadcast
is intended to help agricultural professionals (Extension,
consultants, suppliers, veterinarians, etc.) become
familiar with this growing
sector of agriculture and to better answer questions
and find resources on the topic.

Cultivating Success: The Extension Small Farms Program

- Al Kowitz, Chair-WSU Extension- Stevens County
- Carolyn Clark-WSU Small Business Development Center- Spokane
- Learn about this course from the Extension Small Farms program
which helps small farmers to refine small-acreage farming
practices, and to develop business and marketing plans so
that they can
make their operations profitable.

Leadership Team will appear.
We’ll hear about some of the programs currently being conducted
by the Extension Water Resources Leadership Team and some of the

The winner of the July Extension
Fun Digital Photo Contest is Don Hanley, Extension forester. His
winning image is "Mt.
Shuksan in the North Cascades on a nice day for a hike." We
received other excellent images this month. Thanks to everyone
who took the time to enter. Please consider entering images this
month. See the rules and take
a look at the winning entry.
The theme for August is "Crops."
SCHEDULE
Next week Mike will be in Pullman Monday through Wednesday
and then he will be on annual leave until August 31st.
