REMINDER: EXTENSION DIGITAL PHOTO CONTEST
The Information Department needs a wide range of digital images for use in publications, reports, newsletters, bulletins, announcements, news, flyers, and Web pages. To build an inventory of quality images from across the state, we are announcing a monthly fun photo contest beginning May 1 and ending February 28, 2005. Go to the Web site for the rules and the photo release form for minors, and the list of the different theme for each month.

Names of monthly winners will be announced in Extension Update. The winning image will be published each month on the Extension Faculty and Staff Web site and each winner will receive an Extension marketing prize. We will display a collection of images at the All-Extension Conference in March 2005 and name a grand prize winner. Your images, whether they win or not, will be retained in the department and may be published.

The contest is open only to paid employees and volunteers of WSU Extension and 4-H youth. Employees of the CAHNRS Information Department are not eligible.

Entries must be color digital images no smaller than 1600 by 1200 pixels (2 megapixels). You must be the photographer and owner of the image. Images must not be digitally altered (e.g., telephone lines removed). You may enter up to three images by e-mail each month. E-mail entries to Dennis Brown.

Staged photos of minors are acceptable if you fax a photo release form signed by their parents. You can download a photo release form. Fax the form to Dennis Brown at 509-335-2863. Forms must arrive by the last day of the month for digital images to qualify for that month's contest.

EXTENSION SUPPORT STAFF TRAINING (ESST) NEW TRAINING SERIES DEBUTS MAY 19th, FOCUSING ON “WORKSHOP ACCOUNTS”
Second Announcement:
The series of trainings via technology for the county and district support staff, extension faculty, and the county director or faculty who supervise local support staff. These workshops aren’t intended for CAHNRS department support staff because they already meet monthly for such training and discussions, however, you’re welcome to attend.

Please mark your calendar for 9:00 – 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 19th for the first training, titled “WORKSHOP ACCOUNTS FOR EXTENSION EDUCATORS – Fiscal and Administrative Management.” The presenters will be Mary Hoffman and Detlef Decker. Mary will describe the specifics of accounts intended for workshop fees. We will define the difference between workshops and large scale conferences and therefore, how the workshop accounts differ from conferences. She will be joined by Detlef Decker, Extension Meeting Management + Program Support. He will share important tips for planning a successful workshop. Detlef, drawing from his years of experience in conference administration, will also highlight some common financial pitfalls and items that may catch an auditor’s eye.

The program can also be viewed via WECN at select locations and videostream from your computer. For the scheduled WECN locations and information on how to view the program using either of these options, look under “Future Video Events” on the Video Unit Web site.

If any other groups of faculty and staff would like to get together to watch this broadcast via WECN, please contact Mary Hoffman and we’ll try to schedule other WECN locations in your proximity.

2005 NATIONAL EXTENSION CONFERENCE ON VOLUNTEERISM APRIL 11-14, 2005
“Extension Volunteers: Strong Connections – Strong Communities” is the theme for the 2005 National Extension Conference on Volunteerism. The conference is designed to identify and share recent research, best practices and contemporary thoughts/issues regarding Volunteerism across all Extension program areas, including master gardeners, master volunteers, family/consumer sciences, agriculture/horticulture, community development and 4-H youth development volunteer programs. The conference will also identify, through sharing and discussion groups, critical emerging issues that need research, further study, programs, curriculum developed, or delivery methods and to gather interested individuals to begin working on these issues.

Extension state specialists, staff and educators in volunteerism, community service and leadership development and related programs are encouraged to attend. The conference will be held at the C.A. Vines Arkansas 4-H Center, Ferndale, Arkansas (outside Little Rock).

A call for proposals will be issued on May 12, 2004. The submission deadline will be June 21, 2004 and the selection process will be completed no later than the end of July 2004. See more information may be found or contact Chuck Graves at 202-720-3566.
