2004 VIM WRIGHT STEWARDSHIP AWARD NOMINATIONS SOUGHT
Farming & the Environment is pleased to announce that nominations are being accepted for the first annual “Vim Wright Stewardship Award.” This annual statewide award will honor an individual or team of operators that recognize, appreciate and implement exemplary stewardship of the natural resources under their stewardship. Exemplary stewardship protects and enhances water, soil and air resources and ensures the health of the land for future generations. The successful candidate will have a long-standing stewardship ethic that is reflected throughout their operation.

This competition is open to Washington state farmers, ranchers, orchardists and other agricultural production enterprises that derive more than 75% of their gross income from their agricultural operation. Interested parties, either an operator or a third party, from Washington State are encouraged to submit a nomination for the 2004 award. Applications are due June 30, 2004.

Nominations will be accepted in the following categories:

  • Crops: Dryland, irrigated, tree fruit, or other crops
  • Animals: Cow/calf, dairy, poultry or other animal products
  • Other: Organic operations, preserves (hunting, viewing), any other not listed.

The winner will be honored with a cash award of $2,500 and recognized at a banquet on October 23, 2004 in Ellensburg, Washington.
