MARCH "EXTENSION ENGAGED" TO FEATURE AHEC
The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) at WSU-Spokane will be featured during the March edition of "Extension Engaged." AHEC is one of the newest additions to WSU Extension. On this month's broadcast, we'll get a brief overview of the national AHEC program, learn a little about it's history and find out how this relates to the organization in its new role as part of WSU Extension. We'll learn about some specific programs of the eastern Washington AHEC, current linkages to WSU Extension and links to other WSU units. Guests will include Steve Meltzer, AHEC director, Gordon McLean, Administrator of the Mt. Carmel Hospital in Colville, and Kris Sparks of the Washington State Department of Health.

The program will take place on March 19, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in room T-101 of the Food Science and Human Nutrition building. Faculty and staff here in Pullman are invited to be part of the live studio audience and if you'd like to attend, please plan to be in your seats by 9:20 at the latest. The program can also be viewed via satellite and videostream. For information on how to view the program using either of these options, go to CAHNRS Video & Satellite Broadcasts

"Extension Engaged" is produced each month during the school year by the Information Department in the College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences.

OPPORTUNITY FOR TRIBAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROPOSALS
Health and Human Services (HHS), Administration for Children and Families, invites applications for projects to support Native American communities under the "Social and Economic Development Strategies" program. This program seeks to increase the number of grants to local community organizations and expand the number of partnerships among locally-based nonprofit organizations. Economic development activities should promote the physical, commercial, technological, industrial or agricultural capacities necessary for a sustainable local community. Eligible are Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities, Native communities and other faith- and community-based organizations. Approximately $18 million in FY 2004 funding is expected to be available for 110-120 awards. Projects may range from 12-36 months in length. Cost-sharing of 20 percent is required. Applications are due April 23, 2004. See more information.
