SUBMIT
IMPACT REPORTS DIRECTLY
Dennis Brown, Information Department and Bob Hoffmann, Web Coordinator
have collaborated to create a submission link on the Impacts
Web page. Faculty can reach by clicking on "Submit Report."
The submissions will go directly to Dennis and he will fine-tune
them before they are posted. Dennis will continue to seek and write
Impact reports; however, this new feature will enable us to get
more reports than he could ever gather alone and enable faculty
to achieve some recognition of their accomplishments. By the way,
we have more than 70 impact statements in the works for the 2004
posting. That is up from 58 each of the last two years.

REMINDER:
NRI CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The National
Research Initiative (NRI) FY 2004 Request for Applications (RFA)
is posted on the Web. For additional information contact
the NRI at 202-401-5022. Please note the different program deadlines.
The
NRI supports research, extension, and education grants addressing
key national, regional, and multi-state problems important in sustaining
farming, ranching, forestry including urban and agroforestry, aquaculture,
rural communities, human nutrition, processing, etc. The NRI advances
fundamental sciences in support of agriculture and coordinates opportunities
to build on these discoveries. In FY 2004 the NRI will accept applications
for fundamental research, mission-linked research, and integrated
research, extension, and education projects. However, the NRI will
use no more than 20% of available funds to support integrated and
that these funds will not be distributed uniformly, but targeted
to specific priorities. Targeted priorities for integrated projects
are clearly identified within the detailed descriptions of program
offerings found in the RFA.
e-EXTENSION
The Cooperative Extension Services of the U.S. states and territories,
along with other components of Land-Grant Universities and the Cooperative
States Research, Education and Extension Service of USDA, are cooperating
to build a national e-Extension system. Check out the Web
site for information on the e-Extension initiative led by the
Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP).
This
collaborative effort is being designed to allow the Extension system
to more efficiently serve current and new customers in ways that
provide accurate and just in time information for decision making.
The information technology and the intellectual capacity for this
system are in place to complement the dedicated Extension educators
located in the 3,000 plus counties of the US. Go to the web site
to review the development to date. Provide Rob McDaniel, Scott Fedale,
Linda Fox and/or Mike Tate any input or ideas you have.
