INTERVIEW NOVEMBER 6 & 7 FOR 4-H DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
You are invited to attend a presentation and interview by Terry Langston, Michigan State University, candidate for the position of 4-H/Cooperative Extension Director of Development and Director of 4-H Foundation (based at WSU Puyallup). Dr. Langston will present a short presentation on his philosophy of fundraising and provide examples of some past fundraising projects and then there will be a question and answer session.

The presentation and interview will be held at WSU Puyallup Thursday, November 6 at 3:00 p.m. Room location at WSU Puyallup to be announced. This will also be shown by WECN. If you would like to view the 4-H Director of Development Interview via WECN, please contact Randy Cross, with the site you are located and he will add it. WECN will not be set up in sites unless we know someone will be viewing from there.

WECN in Pullman at Hulbert Hall 221 Conference Room for anyone in Pullman who would like to view the interview on November 6.

The same presentation and interview will be held at WSU Pullman November 7 at 3:30 p.m. in Hulbert Hall 221 Conference Room.

EXTENSION ENGAGED: "FUND RAISING FOR EXTENSION"
Mark your calendar for Friday, November 7, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. CAHE and CE Development Director Patrick Kramer and three staff members, Britta Nitcy, Peter Volk, and Robert Scholes, will outline the steps to be followed to conduct successful fund raising for Cooperative Extension programs and will talk about some frequent problems with local fund-raising efforts and how to solve these. ECONOMICS BEYOND THE TEXTBOOK AND CLASSROOM
Join Gary Smith, WSU Extension Economist, and other economics professionals for a one-day forum involving students in experiential learning opportunities relating to topics, issues, people and careers in economics. The forum will be held in conjunction with the 3rd Annual Northwest Economic Outlook Symposium at the Best Western Fife Hotel & Conference Center in Fife on Friday, November 7, 2003. MEET YOUR NEW COLLEAGUES
A reminder to periodically visit the Extension faculty directory and click on “Meet Your New Colleagues.” The following is a description of two new partners working with WSU Extension.

Michael J. Gaffney is the Associate Director of the Division of Governmental Studies and Services (DGSS) at Washington State University. DGSS is a joint outreach effort of the College of Liberal Arts and WSU Extension, which provides applied research, consultation, and training for governmental agencies throughout the Northwest. Mr. Gaffney holds degrees in Political Science and Economics and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Idaho. He brings to his current position extensive experience in civil, criminal and military law, alternative dispute resolution, qualitative, quantitative and field research, consultation and training. Over the past several years his activities have included work on the advancement of Community Oriented Policing in a five-state region, development and delivery of training on biased policing, ethics, geographic information systems, and participation in the development of a Natural Resources Leadership Academy, as well as teaching courses in Political Science and Criminal Justice.

R. Michael Bireley, joined WSU’s Division of Governmental Studies and Services as a Project Coordinator in October 2002 following twenty-eight years of service with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Enforcement Program. Mike is working on the development of an innovative new program at WSU to be known as the Natural Resources Leadership Academy. When completed and fully operational, the Academy will provide state-of-the-art multi-disciplinary training to local, state, federal and tribal natural resource professionals throughout the Pacific Northwest involving leadership, stewardship, communication, collaborative problem solving and environmental conflict resolution. He is a native of Tennessee and attended Oregon State University, where he majored in Wildlife Science. He currently resides in Clarkston, Washington with his wife, Patty.

SCHEDULE
Mike will be in Pullman next week, except for Wednesday. On Wednesday he will be in Puyallup meeting with faculty and staff.

Linda will be in Pullman Monday through Thursday next week. On Friday she will be in Fife, attending the NW Economic Outlook Symposium.
