NAME
CHANGES PASS SENATE
Yesterday, October 9, the Faculty Senate approved two name changes.
The College of Agriculture and Home Economics (CAHE) new name was
approved: the College of Agriculture, Human, and Natural Resource
Sciences.
The
Senate also approved the request to drop "cooperative."
We will assume the new name Washington State University Extension.
PROFESSIONAL
BEHAVIORS MATRIX UPDATED AND ON THE WEB
A committee has been working for the past several months to update
the professional behaviors matrix. The committee members are Louise
Parker, Wayne Madson, Gary Fredricks, Randy Baldree, Carris Booker,
Anita Raddatz and Mary Deen. The committee had representatives from
all four districts, included county chairs, administration, faculty
and AP's.
The
original professional behaviors matrix was developed and implemented
in 1990. The original and updated matrix includes six sections program,
leadership, organization, communication, professional development
and diversity. These correspond to the six areas in the faculty
manual that are considered when evaluating extension educators.
A new matrix was developed for the administrative work of county
chairs.
The
general changes in the matrix include incorporating new organizational
priorities which include "rainmaker" language, evaluation
emphasis and diversity efforts. In addition the matrix format was
simplified and the length reduced.
The
new modified matrix, the administrative matrix and a section on
Principles for Matrix Use are now on the Extension
Web site under the policies and procedures section. Check these
documents out, as they will be used during the annual reviews for
county-based extension educators.
The
purpose of the matrix is to serve as a guide for county-based extension
educators in understanding organizational standards and expectations.
It will be used by extension administration in conducting the professional
behavior aspects of the annual review. It serves as a basis for
determining professional development plans and is a good self assessment
tool for educators.
The
matrix was shared with the county chairs at the statewide meeting
in Sea-Tac on October 2, 2003. It will be used during the annual
review sessions this year and reevaluated for to see if further
modification is necessary.
