NATIONAL PUBLIC POLICY EDUCATION CONFERENCE
The 2003 National Public Policy Education Conference (NPPEC) will
be held September. 21-24, in Salt Lake City, and will feature five
topics: Biotechnology and the Food System; Impacts of an Aging Population
on Rural Communities; Payment Limits and Other Agricultural Policy
Issues; Growth and Sprawl: Information, Tools and Approaches for
the Extension Educator; and Americas Bioenergy Potential: Options
and Consequences for U.S. Agriculture.
This
conference, sponsored by Farm Foundation since in 1951, is designed
to help Extension educators and other professionals who work with
citizens on controversial public issues. Experts explain all facets
of issues and provide participants with materials they can use in
public education programs. This combination of research-based information
and educational materials and techniques is unique among training
opportunities for policy educators. Professionals who work with
citizens and stakeholder groups on issues related to agriculture,
the food system and rural communities should attend this conference.
The
conference begins with a reception on Sunday evening, Sept. 21,
and concludes with a poster session on Wednesday morning, Sept.
24. A preconference workshop, Public Issues and Public Policy: Exploring
a Collaborative Learning Approach, will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday,
Sept. 21. This workshop is designed for educators who are just beginning
to work on controversial public issues.
The
2003 NPPEC is taking place in conjunction with the Galaxy Conference
for Extension professionals. NPPEC participants may attend Galaxy
sessions and Galaxy participants may attend NPPEC sessions at no
additional charge, except for meal functions. All hotel reservations
for both conferences must be made through the Galaxy
