IMPACT
WEBSITE NEW LOOK
Be sure to check out the redesign of the Washington State University
Impacts Web site. In addition,
three different styles of bookmarks highlighting the Impacts Web
site have been prepared by the Information Department. Look for
future announcements about how to get a quantity of these great
looking bookmarks.
COPYRIGHT
LAW ON CAMPUS
WSU University Press recently released Copyright Law on Campus.
This publication is a concise desktop reference that includes the
latest developments, particularly as they apply to the higher education
environment.
The
Copyright Office provides educational services about copyright related
issues, including how to apply the Fair Use Doctrine, issues related
to the new TEACH act, and when permission is required. Marc Lindsey
has presented educational seminars and provides assistance to university
faculty, staff, and students by phone and e-mail. You may contact

Office Web site.
Each
department secretary may receive one complimentary copy of this
reference publication for the department by contacting the Office
of University Publications and Printing/WSU Press at 335-3518.

INTERNATIONALIZING
EXTENSION: CONFERENCE IN HUNGARY
The 16th European Seminar on Extension Education will be held on
September 2-8, 2003 in Eger, Hungary. The program will emphasize
both the traditional areas of extension education and the new areas
of application through plenary talks and regular technical program.
Organizers of the seminar are the Department for Education, Research
and Development of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development
(Budapest), Department of Extension of the Szent Istvan University
(Godollo), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
- Subregional Office for Central and Eastern Europe (Budapest).
Limited
amount of financial funds are still available for applicants from
Central and Eastern Europe who submit an abstract and only one reduced
fee will be granted per organization. The program of the seminar
includes a 2-day study tour (field trip) in Hungary.
The
main theme of the 16th seminar is "Rural extension and training/education
as the missing element(s) in rural development projects".

CSREES
STAKEHODLER LISTENING SESSION ON FOOD SAFETY
The Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service,
and the Agricultural Research Service, of the United States Department
of Agriculture (USDA), will conduct a Stakeholder Listening Session
on Food Safety Research Priorities on June 30, 2003, in Denver,
Colorado. Participants will include representatives from industry,
university partners, consumer groups, and Federal food safety agencies.
During
the Listening Session, one individual from each organization/agency
will present up to five of their top food safety research priorities
during a 5-minute oral presentation to the meeting participants.
The food safety research priorities identified by each organization/agency
will provide valuable input for USDA food safety agencies. National
Program Leaders from USDA will conduct a series of follow-up meetings
to develop national and agency-wide research strategies for working
with partners and stakeholders to help them achieve their 5-year
research goals. The full-day meeting, beginning at 8:30 am and ending
at 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time, will be held at the Radisson Hotel Denver
at Stapleton Plaza. The meeting will be hosted by the Deputy Under
Secretary for REE, Dr. Rodney J. Brown,and Colorado State University.
A block of rooms has been reserved for Listening Session participants.

Rooms must be reserved by June 15.
There
is no charge for registration, but all meeting participants are
asked to register online for the Listening Session. Please
register by June 20, 2003. The Listening Session is a public
meeting that will be announced shortly in the Federal Register.

SCHEDULE
