PUBLICATIONS SHOWCASING EXTENSION
Watch your mailbox for the latest issue of these two WSU publications; both prominently showcase Extension programs. First is the College of Agriculture and Home Economics (CAHE) Alumni and Friends magazine Connections. The cover story is the "The Master Gardener Program: Thirty Years of Magic." Second is the Washington State Magazine. Be sure to read Tim Steury's article "Taking the University to the People: Cooperative Extension." You'll also find articles about the Puyallup Fair and several CAHE faculty and their research programs.

CAHE LISTSERVE CAPACITY ISSUES
Our lyris email list server is at capacity and is failing about once every 10 days. The problem seems to be people sending large (multi-megabyte) attachments to email lists.

I urge you to think twice about the size of files you transmit to the entire list. Consider letting your listserve colleagues contact you with their individual request for receiving a large document and/or consider alternative ways of dissemination (e.g. CD ROM).

This week we ordered a new Linux communications server that should handle the anticipated demand from lyris and a replacement for our 10 year old email server. We hope to install it in December during the break. Lyris will be first, email replacement later in spring. Thank you for your patience.

ERS STATE FACT SHEETS
USDA Economic Research Service (ERS) State Fact Sheets are now updated. Also new to the State Fact Sheets is a link to a population change page with state and county maps. Lookup and sort State and county-level population data for 1990 and 2000. Data can also be downloaded for charts and maps. Web site is: http://www.ers.usda.gov/statefacts/

FARM FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIPS FOR GRADUATE STUDY
Farm Foundation will fund graduate fellowships in the social sciences and extension administration for the academic year 2003-2004. Extension workers at the administrative level receive top priority, and specialists receive secondary priority.

The period of study may range from one quarter to one year. The applicant's qualifications and needs determine the award amounts. The maximum award is $5,500. Contact Noele Cooper for an application form.

Farm Foundation must receive the applications, application statement, letter of recommendation from state extension director/administrator or federal supervisor, and two additional letters of recommendation, postmarked by March 1, 2003. Applicants will be notified of decision in early April.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES/CURRICULA SOUGHT
The Western Rural Development Center (WRDC) asks your help in identifying Community resource development training resources and curricula that have been developed in the Western Region. The information you provide will be added to a national Web-based clearinghouse for training opportunities with nation-wide applicability. The Western Region has produced many excellent training resources and opportunities, but we need your help in order to capture them all. Please contact wrdc@ext.usu.edu for the electronic form to submit your referral, and feel free to forward the form to others who may have information to share. Thanks for your help, Steve Daniels, WRDC Director

NEAFCS MARKETING PROJECT LIVING WELL
NEAFCS has developed a number of PSA's to increase awareness of Family and Consumer Science. They are well done under a theme of "Living Well". Margaret Viebrock has a VHS videotape, DVD, and CD version of the different PSA's. NEAFCS's goal is to have them distributed to Television stations between January-March of 2003. To help create interest in their use, a $250 award will be given in each region for External Marketing (applications will be due June 1, 2003).
