FACULTY
SENATE "OFFICIALLY"ENDORSES CENTER TO BRIDGE THE DIGITAL
DIVIDE
At its
recent meeting, the Faculty Senate unanimously voted to approve the
WSU Center to Bridge the Digital Divide as a formal "university
center". The Center to Bridge the Digital Divide provides a focal
point for faculty in five separate Colleges to implement educational
outreach and applied research addressing both the disparity in current
access to modern telecommunications technologies and the ability to
utilize the Internet, computers and high speed data connections toadvance
localeducation, economic development,health care, public safety and
civic participation. In its first 18 months, the Center has attracted
over 5.5 million dollars to WSU for such initiatives.
A
DIALOGUE WITH PRESIDENT RAWLINS SET OCTOBER 23
All members of the University community are welcome to participate
in a Dialogue with WSU President V. Lane Rawlins, set to start at
noon October 23 in the Compton Union Building, Room 127. Hear firsthand
from President Rawlins about important issues for WSU. He welcomes
your questions and comments. The Dialogue will also be available
via videostreaming. You may submit
questions in advance.
CALL
FOR CAHE AWARD NOMINATIONS
This
is a "Call for Nominations" for the CAHE Excellence Awards
for Faculty, Staff, Teams, and Students. CAHE faculty, staff, and
students are encouraged to submit nominations for the awards listed
on the web site below. There are awards of interest to extension
faculty and staff, such as:
Extension
Faculty Excellence Award:
This award was established to recognize extension faculty for program
innovation, scope and impact of their programs, and leadership.
These areas could include development of new or innovative programs,
expanded linkages with non-college organizations, or innovative
program delivery.
Team
Excellence Award:
This award was established to recognize activities where the product
or output of the team effort exceeds the simple sum of the parts
contributed by individual members. There should be effective integration
across disciplines, units, and functions of the college, university,
and other relevant groups and recognition by colleagues, professional
groups, industry, and public agencies.

100 YEARS OF CELEBRATING YOUTH
Washington State 4-H invites you to stop by the Holland Library
atrium to see the display celebrating our Centennial Year and National
4-H Week. The display is in the glass case to the right as you enter
the New Library. It contains 4-H memorabilia from the last century
paired with today's curricula. The items will be on display until
October 25th.
