CATALYZING
THE FUTURE: COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIPS FOR BUILDING RESEARCH, SCHOLARSHIP,
AND EDUCATION
The WSU Office of Research (OVPR) and the Graduate School (GS),
in response to the WSU Strategic Plan, are jointly soliciting internal
pre-proposals to catalyze the development of up to four large-scale,
collaborative research projects. Each project should enable the
University to grasp emerging opportunities that have the potential
to catapult us to new research prominence via strategic investment
of targeted resources. In particular, OVPR and GS funds will be
provided to enable the development of competitive proposals for
new externally funded projects (EFP), enhance both undergraduate
and graduate educational programs, transcend traditional disciplinary
boundaries, and increase scholarly activity in several campus units.
In so doing, these initiatives should also further strategic plans
articulated by the participating academic units. It is expected
that each EFP pre-proposal funded by the OVPR and GS will facilitate
the submission of at least one large-scale proposal which will engage
faculty from more than one college, provide at least $2.5 million
in new research funding at WSU itself, and engage a significant
number of students (undergraduate, MS, and Ph.D) in the pursuit
of research and scholarly activities.
Four
awards for quarter time release for one semester for up to three
faculty members (3/4 of a position total for one semester).
Deadline
Dates:
Written pre-proposal: October 4, 2002. Pre-proposals, prepared according
to the guidelines below, should be submitted to the Office of Grant
and Research Development by 5:00PM on October 4, 2002. These proposals
will be reviewed by a panel of faculty and administrators. By October
18, 2002, as many as six proposals will be selected to make oral
presentations describing the proposed program. Referees may suggest
that similar proposals be combined to maximize the potential for
successful submissions.
Oral
proposals: November 14, 2002. Descriptions of the activity that
will be developed will be presented to a committee composed of senior
faculty and administrators. Each group will be provided 20 min.
to present the project, to be followed by 20 min. of questions from
the review panel. Based on these presentations, as many as four
projects will be selected for funding.
NEW
WSU TV SPOTS
This week at the President's Cabinet Retreat we got a sneak
preview of the two new television advertising spots for WSU recruiting
efforts. These will begin next week in the Seattle area and are
designed to appeal to youth ages 12 to 20 and are designed to build
upon the already successful "opening the door" TV spots.
