4H HALL
OF FAME NOMINATIONS DUE AUGUST 15TH
To
christen the beginning of the centennial year of 4-H Youth Development,
a 4H Hall of Fame was created and in October 2001 the 100 inaugural
inductees were initiated. The second round of inductions will take
place on October 19th as part of the 2002 State 4-H Forum.
Do
you know someone who made or is making a contribution to the young
people of our state through the 4-H Program? Perhaps it was your
own 4-H leader who contributed so much to young lives or perhaps
your mentor was your now retired 4-H agent? We want to recognize
the broad shoulders, strong hands, and cheerful hearts that has
made Washington 4-H the largest youth development program in our
state.
4-H
Hall of Fame nomination forms and the criteria are located on our
Web page at http://4h.wsu.edu or
you can call Linda Williams at 253-445-4550. Completed nominations
are due August 15th.
NEW
FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATIVE/PROFESSIONAL ORIENTATION
The
College of Agriculture and Home Economics conducts orientation sessions
for faculty and administrative/professionals and the next session
is scheduled for August 20-22, beginning at 1:30 pm, August 20 and
ending at noon, August 22. A draft agenda, registration form and
a list of invitees has been mailed. This is a great opportunity
to interact with new colleagues from other departments on-campus
and from across the state.
NATIONAL
ISSUES FORUMS, PORTLAND, OR (AUGUST 8, 9, 10)
The
National Issues Forums (NIF) provide opportunities to gather and
deliberate on challenging public issues of the day. Forums differ
from mere discussions and debates, participants engage in search
deliberation of possible choices for policy and action in addressing
the issue of concern. The NIP encourages participants to examine
the issue in depth with a fresh view, including their own underlying
values which have shaped their opinions.
Who
should attend?
Public
officials who want to promote meaningful dialogue between individuals
or groups and government; community leaders working on local issues;
concerned individuals seeking a better way to address important
issues in their community; and individuals seeking an alternative
to adversarial debate in group meetings.
