NEW PROVOST TO APPEAR ON "CAHE UPDATE" VIDEO BROADCAST
We've just received word that Provost Robert Bates has consented to appear on the next edition of our "CAHE UPDATE" video broadcast, on March 8, from 10-11:30 am.

Joining him on the program will be Deans Zuiches and Tate, Associate Dean Vicki McCracken, Richard Shumway, chair of the Agricultural Economics department, Gary Smith, Extension Ag Economist at Puyallup and Jon Newkirk, Director of the Western Center for Risk Management Education.

So be sure to mark your calendars and join us on March 8. We'll be announcing satellite and videostream locations closer to the actual broadcast date and you'll be able to find that information on the Information Department webpage at: http://caheinfo.wsu.edu/video/satellite.html

DIGITAL DIVIDE SEMINARS AVAILABLE TO COUNTY OFFICES
The Washington State University Center to Bridge the Digital Divide, in collaboration with the CAHE Information Department, will produce a series of six one-hour seminars intended to create awareness among local community leadership of opportunities for community betterment through the use of telecommunications. The seminars will be broadcast statewide (and in some cases nationally) over the CAHE Satellite network and will emphasize approaches already being successfully implemented in the state of Washington. The first seminar, scheduled for early April, will present selected community success stories and a panel of community leaders available to answer questions within a one-hour live broadcast. Other planned topics include successful local planning models, telework, e-government, youth technology programs and e-commerce.

Each of the broadcasts will be conducted in a wrap-around format including a 60 to 90 minute live broadcast with follow-up facilitated local discussion. The 10 WSU Learning Centers have agreed to serve as the core downlink sites for seminar series broadcasts and local community discussion within the state of Washington. Registrants will be charged a modest fee to attend each broadcast to recover costs. The Association of Washington Cities, the Washington State Grange and the Washington State Office of Trade and Economic Development have agreed to partner with the WSU Center to Bridge the Digital Divide on the project, marketing the seminar series opportunity through their statewide networks.

County Cooperative Extension offices, particularly those not within a reasonable commuting distance of a WSU Learning Center are encouraged to consider participating as a local broadcast/discussion site for the planned digital divide seminar series. The primary requirement for county office participation is the ability to assign a designated coordinator/facilitator for each broadcast seminar and to support local logistics. The Center will provide overall statewide coordination. County Cooperative Extension offices that have interest in participating or wanting additional details should contact either Bill Gillis or his assistant, Chris Eder, by no later than February 8.
